This is a nice place in a great location. It was a treat to stay right on the Oudegracht (old canal) in Utrecht. Loek's place is on a lovely stretch of the canal and is central to everything. There are many shops and restaurants around, and you can see the Dom cathedral from outside the door. It is peaceful in the morning, under the trees, enjoying the calm, and it is lively the rest of the day with boats of all shapes and sizes using the canal.
Inside, it is cool knowing you're staying in a 300+ year old wharf. It is very Dutch! There is a kitchen with fridge, microwave, stovetop, coffee maker and tea kettle, plus cookware, dishes and cutlery (no oven). Loek provided a bowl of fruit, croissants, bread, butter, jam, Nutella, cheese, milk, juice and other items, which were much appreciated. The wifi is strong enough to get a decent signal while sitting outside. There is a tv and a comfortable living room setup, a comfortable bed, a full-length mirror and dresser (no closet or wardrobe). The shower and toilet are in the same space, with the sink outside. It is a slightly musty in the bathroom, but they have two dehumidifiers/air purifiers running in the apartment, and you have to remember that you are underground.
Overall, I enjoyed my four-day stay. You can't beat the location - the canal is fabulous and the place is right in the center of everything in Utrecht. It is a short walk to the Dom, various museums, and 5 minutes to the grocery store. It is a 12-minute walk from Utrecht Centraal Train Station. Also noteworthy is that Wikipedia's Utrecht entry includes a photo from 1890 of the same stretch of canal - very cool!
