After some initial annoyances (bed screws had to be tightened to avoid bed falling apart, noisy guests upstairs, and dirty shower curtain), we had a great time. The noisy guests went and the shower curtain was replaced immediately after reporting it to the host. The neighbourhood is unassuming but there's some restaurants, shops (good supermarket, laudry, Starbucks), and a subway station ( 8 minute walk) nearby. Ideal for visiting NY.
Being familiar with apartments in the area and Astoria and New York in general having lived there a few years ago, Ryan and Shannon's apartment was perfect for our “home base”. The location is great, a short 5-10 minute walk from the N/W at Astoria Blvd, or, if you time it just right, you can hop the Q69 bus to the F train at Queensbridge. Total commute to the city, maybe 20 minutes. You could literally throw a rock and hit Astoria park as well. Perfect summer spot especially since the pool is open. The basement apartment is updated with great flooring and an amazing kitchen. Beds are comfortable. Extra blankets and pillows available. Towels provided. Everything is exactly as described in the listing. While we didn’t meet Ryan or Shannon, Ryan was very communicative through AirBNB, and even let us check in a couple hours early to accommodate our schedule. Four of us slept comfortably, my husband and I in one room and our two friends split the couch and the other bedroom. Ample space for the price, and definitely better than any hotel in Astoria, and probably Manhattan, with free parking wherever you can find it in Astoria. Definitely would recommend.
