Located in Isamilo a calm and safe area close to the city centre. The house is bright, fresh and clean surrounded by a beautiful semi-wild garden. Two bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen. //Note: We give long term discounts for weeks/months. Our place is ideal for professional workers, looking for peace of mind concentrating fully on research/consulting/studying
>>The Solar House
We are an adventurous family of three, renting out bedrooms in our eco-friendly house in Isamilo.
Best thing first: It is "green" - meaning it mainly runs on solar-energy! Sam is working for a German Solar company and has equipped the house with one of their products. Super reliable and powerful.
The house has three bedrooms:
Master bedroom: Spacious with a queen-sized bed, desk, shelf and a closet. It also has access to a private bathroom. Perfect for long-term stays or travellers who prefer a little more privacy.
Single room: Cozy room with queen-sized bed and closet. For single traveller or a couple.
Twin room: Simple room with two single beds. Perfect for sharing with a friend.
All room doors can be separately locked!
We offer a decent monthly discount!
There are two bathrooms (one of them is only accessible from the master bedroom). They are clean, tiled and have “rain dance” showers with hot water. Since the regional government has their residences and offices in Isamilo water supply is quite stable and the water pressure high.
Self-contained kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook delicious meals with locally produced veggies from the market or fish from Lake Victoria :)
Our Scandinavian/Tanzanian (Ingjerd is Norwegian) fusion style living room has a sitting group, a desk and a dining table.
The house has a terrace with a sitting area where you can chill, have a chat and a drink after a long day. Maybe while petting Otto. The outdoor cat. She is super sweet. The garden is awesome and the perfect location for a barbecue.
The Isamilo area is cool and safe. It is calm despite the busy city centre being just a 10 minutes walk away. We often host guests from NIMR or the Isamillo International School because they are only 500 meters away.
If you want to do exercise - the roads in Isamilo are good for running and Isamilo International School (just around the corner) has a professional, outdoor swimming pool. If you stay long-term you can join ultimate frisbee, soccer and other organized sports that take place just nearby.
….And if drinking beer is your favorite sport - fear not - there are several bars and pubs in the area :) The new and popular bar “Flexzone” is just around the corner.
The international language training centre is (literally) next door and offers high standard swahili classes for foreigners. They also have a small preschool from 8 am-1 pm on weekdays. Don’t worry we barely notice them after they are done singing the national anthem :)
For shopping Rock City Shopping Mall, U-turn supermarket and Kirumba market (veggies and fruits) are located within short walking distance.
We share the compound with our long time friend Damien and his wife Anna. They are very nice and helpful if there should be any questions or issues while we are not around. Also they will do your check-in as we are usually not in Mwanza.
BETWEEN US WE SPEAK GERMAN, NORWEGIAN, ENGLISH AND SWAHILI
Guests have access to the wonderful kitchen, the stylish and cozy sitting room with dining area, an the porch with the fresh breeze. Also the garden is of course open to be used by anyone (we always do small garden parties there)
We will be available via Phone or airbnb messenger. For all quick queries just communicate with Damian (read in guest memo).
All inside and outside lights run on solar. Yet the power sockets in the house can be affected by power cuts that occur in the area. Talk to Damian, he can help you get your laptop charged.
Please remember this is a our beloved home, it is not a hotel.
Please keep our interior in place as you found it, please dont shift any furniture or decoration. Feel free to re-stock commonly shared items.
Please don't solely rely on the mosquito screens in the windows. Mosquitos will always manage their way into the rooms, and Mosquito nets get easily displaced during sleep. It is best to spray the room 30-60min before going to sleep, if you want to be sure. We have been living in this house with a baby without any issues or Malaria, just applying natural caution.
Ingjerd is a Norwegian anthropologist and Sam is German working for a solar energy company.
Work and studies brought us both to Tanzania where we met each other. Now we have a kid: Elise (aka little monkey).
We have spent more than four years in Tanzania and Mwanza is by far our favorite city. We are so excited to welcome visitors from all over the world to our home!
