My cozy, two bedroom, retro apartment resides in the quiet, leafy suburb of Elwood, which neighbours Melbourne's vibrant St Kilda, famous for Acland St, markets, and the iconic Palais Theatre and Luna Park! LGBTQ friendly, Foxtel in the lounge, air-con, high speed WiFi and balcony, the apartment stays naturally cool, is just a two minute stroll to the beach (perfect for summer) and just five minutes walk to public transport and village shops! You'd be sharing the common space with a delightful old pug and cat, and we'd love to welcome you to Melbourne!
The space has warm and vibrant tones throughout with a cacophony of colours, you'll find lava lamps, candles, incense, ottomans, rugs, cozy blankets and an assortment of teas and mismatched dishes. There are also my fur babies, Harley the old pug and Luna the cat to liven the place up!
Environmentally conscious, you won't be greeted by the smell of harsh chemicals, but more likely of plant derived products with essential oils. You can rest assured that the products used to effectively clean the abode you are staying in are not harmful to the environment or tested on animals. This home is becoming a vegan now! This means what I provide for you (toiletries and breakfast) may be vegan. Please keep in mind that this does not mean I expect you to shop, cook and eat like I do in my home. I respect others and I'm not about judging anyone.
Your bedroom has a firm and comfortable futon bed, double wardrobe, old retro television (to play DVDs - or I can even set up a SNES if you like), DVD player, bedside table drawers, lamp and bedding. There is Foxtel in the lounge room and you are always welcome in the lounge!
What makes my place special is the international decor, the bohemian energy, beach air and my wonderful (and clean) little pets! They can be entertaining and cuddly, the cat has a special amount of energy a couple of times a day, but if the bell on her collar bothers you, I can take it off - I just like to hear where she is because she's an indoor only cat. They are both toilet trained, well behaved/obedient and well looked after. Please understand though that with animals mishaps (e.g. hairballs or even poop) are at risk of sometimes occurring - all you need do is alert me in the event of such mishap and I'll see to it immediately! Of course if you do so yourself, that's your prerogative, but if you let me know, I'll likely reward you with chocolate! :)
This is a pretty laid back atmosphere that welcomes anyone with respect for others choices and beliefs. I won't respond positively to racism or homophobia. This is a LGBTQ friendly space!
Happy to accommodate up to FOUR guests if the need arrises, but only for short stays up to a fortnight - please message first. It would be a tight squeeze in the one room involving a double air mattress in addition to the futon, but it's still much better and cheaper than a backpackers hostel or cheap hotel!
You are most welcome to all amenities in the kitchen, as well as having a shelf in one of the cupboards and two shelves in the fridge, you are also welcome to the instant coffee and assortment of teas and are free to *cook!
There are fresh towels (including two beach towels), extra sheets and blankets, portable Dyson Hot/Cold fan available in your room, as well as an iron and small ironing board available in the hall cupboard and bathroom, there's also a washing machine and detergent, clothes horse, hair dryer, books, CD's, DVDs/Bluerays and Foxtel you are welcome to use during your stay.
My carpark is currently available (I don't currently have a car), plus there is unlimited week day street parking and 2hr weekend parking 10am - 8pm (Dec - March). If this is a problem, there are nearby streets without this limitation.
*If you are vegan or vegetarian, I should inform you my cookware and utensils have been used to prep and cook meats as I was once an omnivore turned pescatarian and most of my guests handle animal products in the kitchen. However, the red fry pans are for vegan use only.
I also ask that you please always use the fan and open the back door if necessary while cooking, but please refrain from cooking highly aromatic foods on the daily, such as super strong curries (mild is okay daily - I do it myself) and please clean up after yourself (no half-cleaned, greasy dishes, please). Thanks you.
Whenever I am home when you are and not in my room (most likely resting/sleeping), you are most welcome to socialise with me, have a chat, watch a movie or play a game with me, for sure!
I don't mind the odd drink or few, especially in the summer, nor am I averse to sharing a cheeky smoke (420 friendly here) on the balcony and I am quite happy to answer any questions you might have about Melbourne.
If we really hit it off, I'd even take you to a gig or something if that's something you'd be interested in! :)
I am contactable on my mobile phone when not home and if unable to respond, would generally be able to get back to you within an approximate hour.
I'm a student in my early 30s and free spirited, vegan, appreciate the arts, enjoying time with friends and music, going to gigs and festivals, the beach, camping, road trips, traveling and exploring solo. I like to chill, watch shows or movies, read, think, create, play music, dance, act, help a good cause, do volunteer work and I love cuddling with my little family of pets. If you'd like to know more about me, I have filled out my profile. :)
- Recycle responsibly and consider your carbon footprint. This means no paper, cardboard, plastics or aluminium in garbage bins and please turn lights and electrical equipment off when leaving a room, please.
- Do not wake the dog and rile him up unless you want to take him outside - he is an "old man" and will expect you to take him outside and he might poop regardless if you excite him enough! (Tell him, "bed" or get me to deal with him immediately if he's antsy).
- If a pet has an accident, please do NOTIFY ME immediately (or if you wish to clean it up with a paper towel and notify me after, you will receive a nice reward for being awesome).
- Please put your key(s) in the little bowl atop of the chiffonier in the hall when home to communicate your presence (that way I won't play music loudly if I know you're home) and also so as not to forget your key(s) when going out.
- Please leave the (unoccupied) bathroom door open for Luna the cat to access her litter and food.
- No unauthorised guests, please. It's $20 a night per extra person.
- No water use when ppl shower.
- Leave w/m hose in the shower.
- Put towel over bathroom rug.
- Lock deadlock when leaving.
- Fan on when showering.
- Lock window when out.
- No pets in bedrooms.
- No feeding the pets.
- No smoking inside.
Thank you so, so much! :)
I'm 32 and I am originally from Tasmania and have been living in Melbourne since the age of 18.
I am currently a studying the craft of Acting. I have also studied Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and Community Services Work and Case Management. I do occasional volunteer work with the Deaf people who have disabilities, which doesn't seem like work to me, but a lot of fun!
I adore all forms of art and expression. I spend my time going to gigs and being with friends, I spend a lot of time with acting and I also like playing my ukulele and writing - my audience being me hehe. I enjoy doing hair braiding, nail art and henna tattoos. I also devote a lot of attention to environmental and animal rights causes.
I adore animals and made the choice to become vegan this year. I grew up with horses and have pets: a pug dog (Harley), a medium haired, white cat (Luna). I also have a fish and a reptile who live in my room.
I'm very responsible and have been described as being meticulously clean in my own home, although I don't mind getting grubby at all and I don't begrudge other people's housekeeping choices in their own home, because it's really none of my business. :)
I have respect for others personal choices and believe that having a negative or fearful attitude toward anyone or anything is maladaptive to ones soul. Subsequently, I don't respond positively to racism or homophobia.
By doing Airbnb I'm hoping to share the space with happy travellers from around the globe whilst also making the other half of the rent and bills. I've only used Air BnB once as a guest when in New York and it was a very positive experience. I've been told by many that I am a good host for my friends and so far it's been one wonderful experience after the other! :D
