I stayed at Hakob's place for 9 weeks from March to May 2017, while doing rotations at HFH. His place is clean, contains the essentials and has good value for the price. The central part of Detroit is experiencing a rebirth, and New Center (location of this listing) is part of it. I walked 10 minutes to the hospital early in the morning and walked back in the afternoon and did not experience issues. That being said, the middle of the night on weekend nights may not be the best for walking outside alone. The new rail line runs down Woodward from the intersection with West Grand Blvd. which is a pleasant walk past the Fisher building and Cadillac place. The line stops at most major attractions in Detroit, including Comerica park, riverfront, Detroit Institute of Arts, and near Greek town (if casinos are your thing) and others.
Hakob is pleasant and communicative. He works long hours and as he lives in the apartment only part time, most interaction was in afternoons of week days. All in all, I would recommend staying at Hakob's as a good option for both short and long term.
