This log cabin is set in the woods of rural northeast Vermont. Take a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle, clear your mind, and appreciate nature. Located between the Green Mountains of VT and the White Mountains of NH, it is a great place to access a ton of different ski and hiking areas. Beautiful summers, unbelievable foliage, and some of the best skiing on the east coast. Great for a couples getaway, a girls/guys weekend, or to spend some quality time with the kids.
This secluded log cabin is located on a dirt road in the middle of the woods. Your hosts live in the house about a one or two minute walk up the hill from the log cabin. The two houses are separated by woods, so the cabin has complete privacy.
This is a modern cabin in almost every way. It has electricity, great insulation, central heat (in addition to the incredibly effective wood stove), microwave, full gas stove and oven, refrigerator, microwave, a full bathroom, a washer and dryer, a land-line telephone, and wifi. But we want to stress that this is a place to disconnect. Literally. You might get one bar of cell phone service. The cabin does not have TV or computers.
You are a ten minute drive from Groton State Forest (hiking trails, ponds, lakes, etc: (URL HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) You are right in between the Green Mountains and the White Mountains (about an hour from White Mountain State Park and an hour from Camel's Hump, Mt. Mansfield etc). You are 1 hour and 30 minutes from Burlington and Lake Champlain, with some of the most scenic roads and towns in between. A right turn out of the driveway and there are miles and miles of beautiful back roads that glow with reds, oranges and yellows during fall foliage. Old farm houses, country general stores with local goods, apples, syrup, and more. The log cabin is located in the town of Groton, which while incredibly small and humble is still known for it's Chicken Pot Pie Supper during it's Fall Foliage Festival. In the winter, you will be 45 minutes from the smaller ski mountains Burke Mountain and Bolton Valley, and 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes from bigger ski resorts in all directions (Stowe, Sugarbush, Jay Peak, Loon Mountain, Bretton Woods, Sunapee, and more!). If back woods cross country skiing or snowshoeing is more your speed, there are picturesque old farm fields and backwoods trails within walking distance or a few minutes drive. Your hosts will be more than happy to offer advice, suggestions, and directions to personalize your experience and get you off the beaten path.
And, if all you need is a place to rest and relax we have that too. It's a great place to do nothing at all. You won't hear a thing at night and only a logging truck or two during the day. You can go outside on clear nights and see a sky full of stars. It's a great place to write, do yoga, nap, cuddle, sit around for hours and talk with your loved ones, or just be :)
The entire cabin and it's contents are yours to use. The wood stove makes the place very cozy and there will be wood to burn. We do ask that if you need a little lesson on how to use the wood stove, please don't hesitate to ask - a few tips can go a long way. There are no properly maintained trails around the property but the woods are great for roaming through by foot or snowshoe. There are snowmobile trails in the area, but none on the property.
The log cabin is located on the same property as the hosts house. We are about a one minute walk up the hill. We will be happy to help you with any questions or concerns, or to offer any suggestions for local attractions/activities.
It is very important to note that there is very limited cell phone service at and around the log cabin. If you have AT&T you might have one or two bars. Otherwise, you will not have service. There are no TVs or computers, in the log cabin.
Also VERY IMPORTANT: You will need a car to get to this location and get around the area. While there is a small general store in West Groton, the nearest full grocery store is 20 minutes away.
Your hosts are also there to offer guidance, suggestions, directions, and assistance. However, we ask that you be reasonable with your requests and recognize that you are in a rural area in a woodsy cabin.
- We only ask that you treat this house like you would your own. This is not a large event space. But if you would like to have a small gathering of friends or family, please let us know in advance and we would be happy to host you.
