Pu'uhonua in Hawaiian means a place of refuge, where early Hawaiians could find forgiveness and solace. Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with well-stocked kitchen and expansive deck nestled among native O'hia trees beckons you to renew and seek refuge from your unforgiving world too!
Here, in Pu'uhonua, you will be living in a peaceful, rural neighborhood. Though our neighbors are not as close as in other subdivisions, please observe quiet hours between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
Please remove shoes before entering the house and please
no smoking within the house (out on the deck is fine!).
Please care for our property as if it were your own. One important way to do this, is to please wipe up any standing water or drops on the Brazilian Cherry floor (to avoid water damage). We understand accidents happen, but please let us know if something breaks or is not in working order so we can quickly replace or repair it.
I am Native Hawaiian and Bill calls Santa Cruz, CA his hometown. We are teachers who love returning home to our Pu'uhonua, or place of refuge, whenever we are not working overseas. We love spending every minute at our Maiko Home, working on home improvement projects, cooking and catching up with our Hawaiian and California Ohana and friends whenever we are at home. We travel extensively since our jobs take us to some of the most unique places in the world, but have to admit, there truly is no place like this anywhere else-cool calm breezes off our deck, the native birds singing in Ohi'a trees by day and coqui tree frogs chirping at night. We have awesome family, neighbors, and friends nearby to also help with any needs you may have during your stay in our home.
We'll do all we can to communicate quickly, though since we work overseas, please anticipate 12-18 hours for us to reply from our time zones and to make your stay one to remember at Pu'uhonua, or our favorite place of refuge. E Komo Mai!
