I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to experience Tulum like a local! No frills and we absolutely LOVED it. The Cabana is rustic, hand built and very nicely maintained. It is just across a narrow street from the beach strip in Tulum. We really liked how easy it was to get to the beach when we wanted, and when we were ready to leave the tourists behind, we could head to our quite secluded cabana. It is amazing how close we were to all the hotels and shacks (less than 100 steps) yet we felt cut off when we entered the cabana.
There are a few things that you need to keep in mind if you are interested in this listing:
1. Maria our host is absolutely wonderful, super responsive and warm. However I do not speak Spanish and therefore we had to work a little to coordinate our pick-up. If language is an issue for you too, make sure you connect with Maria before you leave for your trip to coordinate your check-in. She is incredibly flexible and met us 2 hours earlier than plan because we ended up taking a shared taxi from the hotel instead of the bus. She was super sweet and came to pick us up from the hotel we ended up at.
2. This place is rustic and surrounded by trees, so expect to use your bug spray and sleep under the mosquito net provided in the cabana.
3. Most places in Tulum are designed for eco-tourism. This means most places have salt water showers and toilets that do not flush toilet paper. This place is no exception. However, the cabana does have hot water showers, which is a huge plus compared to the other places in this price range.
4. This cabana is on the beach strip and like most places on the strip, locals do not have addresses, just kilometer markers. The easiest way to locate the cabana is to use a hotel as reference. This cabana is right opposite "Alma Hotel". Another hotel landmark is "Hip Hotel". It is easiest to meet Maria outside Alma or at the Tulum town bus stop.
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks a ton Maria!
