Located in the heart of Portland, come settle in to our vintage apartment. Become absorbed in the vibrant culture and shops that make E Burnside Street an iconic Portland experience. Located in the Kerns neighborhood, we have the best of both worlds: fantastic shopping & dining out the front door and quirky neighborhoods to meander through. Screen Door, Laurelhurst Theatre, and Heart coffee are just the tip of the iceberg. Our apartment is great for couples, folks on business, & families w/kids.
My husband Neal and I have put a lot of energy into making our place warm and welcoming. We have furnished it from local NW furniture makers and decorated it with vibrant colors to engage the senses. It's a fantastic base to explore Portland and is walkable to some of the city's best restaurants, cafes, coffee houses, and boutique shopping. The neighborhood is full of historic homes and you can get anywhere in the city because of our central location.
As with any older home or apartment building (we're talking 117 years old now), there are quirks and aspects you must be mindful of: namely that the floors creak here and there, there is no central AC, and noise can travel easier between flats. f this doesn't sound like what you're looking for, feel free to reach out to see if this is the right space for you.
Guests have access to their own apartment, which includes a spacious living room, 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, a bathroom, and access to the basement for laundry. There is also plenty of closet and storage space for longer stays. There are two entrances/exits. We encourage you to use the front door because of the keyless entry system. We do not provide keys to the kitchen entrances/exits.
Early check-in or late check-out is not possible. You can drop your bags off early (inside the front door) between 12PM-3PM. Please know that our cleaning team will be there getting the space ready for your arrival.
My husband Neal and I love meeting our guests. We are also entrepreneurs who have multiple business going and can sometimes be quite busy. We have a streamlined check-in/out system so you can be in full control.
Your level of desired interaction is where we'd like to meet you. We've BBQed, shared wine and coffee with guests, and gone on neighborhood walks. On the opposite spectrum, others want to be left alone. We communicate frequently through the Airbnb app and can mold to meet you where you're at!
If you get cold feet, bring slippers. If you are sensitive to morning light, bring an eye mask (we have nice window treatments, but they are not blackout shades). We use the pour-over coffee method to enable you to enjoy the BEST coffee experience. If you don't prefer that method, 1 block up the road is Heart Coffee where Portland's best coffee is brewed on a daily basis. The TV has a Netflix account through Roku but we do not have cable TV.
Cooling options for the summer months: a window AC unit in the bedroom and a stand up fan to help move the cool air about.
Please care for our apartment like it was your own! My husband and I have put a lot of effort into making the apartment a fantastic space for you.
Please read our house manual (Airbnb sends it to you before arriving) as well as the packet of information we have on the kitchen table upon your arrival.
CHECK-IN: 3PM // CHECK-OUT: 10AM
STRICT QUIET HOURS: 10PM TO 7AM
NO SHOES INSIDE
It tracks in dirt (especially when it's raining) and the sound on the wood floor reverberates sound throughout the house. If your feet get cold, bring slippers!
NO EARLY CHECK-IN OR LATE CHECK-OUT
We are booked almost 100% of the time and it is very challenging to work around our cleaner's schedule. You can drop your bags off between 12-3PM early if you arrive at 11AM or earlier.
KEYLESS ENTRY AND ARRIVAL DOOR ETIQUETTE
The access code is in the House Manual (Airbnb sends this to you in an email). If you need me to send you the code, message me and I'll do so. If you're arriving a bit later in the evening, please be mindful of the residents below and next door. Sometimes sound can travel due to the nature of the old historic building. We also leave the front porch light on at night to show the neighborhood that we are "home". Please be sure to turn your porch light off in the morning and during the day to not waste electricity.
HEATING IN THE WINTERTIME
The control is a standard thermostat and pretty self explanatory. If you have questions how to use it or set it, ask! If you're not at home during the day, PLEASE don't run the heat all day. Be mindful of energy consumption!
COOLING IN THE SUMMERTIME
We have 1 window AC unit in the bedroom and a fan. Please do not let these run all day while you're out. We work hard to keep our energy costs manageable. If you run your AC unit, close all windows to ensure cold air is trapped inside.
While we love animals, we have guests that are allergic and want to make sure that everything remains allergy-free.
We have intentionally set the maximum number of people. In our attempt to provide you with a spotlessly clean place, we don't want people sleeping on the couch.
Is to provide an incredible place for people to stay during their time in Portland. Everyone that has come has loved it. We want you to love it as well, which all starts with following the house rules. They are designed so that everyone in the building, including yourself, has a great trip. If you don't think that you can observe then then you may be best finding a different place to stay.
Alissa & Neal
Alaska raised, Oregon based now. I live with my family in southeast Portland. We welcomed our son Lucas into the world in August of 2016.
My favorite things to do: be outside in the mountains, freedive in the ocean, and spend quality time with those I love. My favorite things to indulge in: fresh black coffee, goat cheese, and Oregon Pinot Noirs.
Looking forward to meeting you!
