Our home is less than a mile to UFHealth at Shands and the Malcom Randall Veterans Medical Center. We are a mile to the University of Florida campus. Amazingly, also a short bike ride (1-2 miles) to Downtown Gainesville. Close to Depot Park, art studios, restaurants, music venues, and theater. Nature parks close too. The bonus is we live on 2 acres, tucked back in a quiet neighborhood. Our pool is deep & cool; we have bikes to borrow. The container is perfect for a solo traveler, or a couple.
Space is 400 square feet and open, loft style. There is a toilet, sink, toast-R-oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, electric tea kettle and basic kitchen supplies. The shower is a private outdoor shower, with hot water, 25 ft from the door. The container is next to our home but private. There are two porches for sitting outside and enjoying the view. We often have great blue heron, whistling ducks, turtles, and egrets in the pond. Occasionally we have an otter or gator that decides to make a home here too. The pool was built in 1960 and is quite deep and cool. We sit on two acres in one of the oldest Gainesville neighborhoods.
You have access to the yard (2 acres), the pool, ping pong table in the carport. A washer and dryer are available for longer stays. There are bikes to borrow; please let us know what you need in advance for biking (lights, helmet, cruiser or off-road). The container will be unlocked when you arrive. You can park in front of the container. Help yourself to grapefruit, peaches, figs, or any other edibles in our yard!
There are so many fantastic places to explore in the area! The University of Florida, UFHealth Shands, and the Veterans Center. First Magnitude Brewery is just a mile down the road. Nature hikes including Paynes Prairie is a super short drive (1-3 miles). Fantastic restaurants and bars a bike ride away. Be sure to plan a trip to the springs, better than Disney! The Florida Museum of Natural History and Butterfly Gardens, the Harn, Phillips Center for the Arts and the Swamp all biking distance! Downtown, the Hippodrome Cinema (wine or local beer with your movie) and theaters all so close, no need to drive. The Top, Depot Park (complete with splash park) all so close you can even walk. We are happy to make recommendations and help you find your way to an amazing Gainesville experience!
We are a family of 3 most of the time. My husband, myself and our 14-year-old son. We have 3 grown children who do not live at home but visit from time to time. Our twins live in town, and our daughter lives in Oakland. We have three dogs. All of our dogs have been raised and trained around and with children and are super friendly. I am a midwife and nurse practitioner. I spend lots of time working in the Middle East and in other international settings providing health care. My husband has a non-profit business, Rescue Threads which takes old fire gear and repurposes it into fabulous bags and oven mitts.
You can request a 1-day stay, but we prefer more than one night and may charge a slight up-charge, cleaning after one day can be a pain, and we have no problem staying booked for at least two days at a time. Just send a message, and we can see if it is possible.
You can request to stay with a pet but must have reviews from prior travel with a pet and short description of personality of animal and breed and finally approval from us BEFORE you book, please.
