Designed, engineered and built by Architect Alfredo Amati, Villa Grifone is located in Capalbio, just 4 km from the spectacular coast. Nestled in the beautiful Tuscan landscape between the rolling hills of Maremma and the Mediterranean, the villa is very well connected by roads and railways, and is just over an hour from the cities of Rome, Florence and Fiumicino Airport.
Completely immersed among the wooded slopes of the hills of Monteti and silver hue of a century old olive grove, the villa has a symbiotic relationship with the natural landscape that it is located in. Hares, deer and wild boars often appear in the large surrounding land. The night reveals spectacular views of a pristine night sky perfect for star gazing.
The minimalist style, the High Tech highly advanced energy system, the beauty of the natural surroundings, the swimming pool carved out of a quarry, the extraordinary views overlooking the valley and the sea all serve to make Villa Grifone a unique and inimitable place.
The fireplace is at the heart of the villa, located in the centre of the large open plan living space and handmade by master craftsmen. It is unique both for its beauty and engineering and was designed by Architect Amati with the intention of giving guests and diners a sense of intimacy and shared living space.
The fireplace is equipped with a electronically and motorized system to obtain the perfect fire and allows guests to regulate it’s strength according to their needs. The constant and regular heat radiates magically everywhere, making the spaces particularly warm and welcoming.
Perfectly integrated into the living area is the large kitchen which is contained within panels of ‘ferro spezzatto’ echoing the minimalist style of the house. Two large work surfaces in stone, top of the range kitchen accessories, as well as an internal barbecue make it an ideal space for receptions and enjoying the joy of cooking. Organic vegetables are grown in the garden that provides fresh and seasonal products.
The main living room opens onto an outside room, doubling the space available to guests to enjoy socializing or just relax. The area is provided with an automatic curtain system that allows guests to let in the light but equally to offers protection from the sun during the hottest moments of the day if desired. protection.
Both living rooms are composed of a seating area and a dining area. The tables were made using a modular design allowing for them to be moved between the inside and outside living rooms, easily and comfortably accommodating up to 22 lunch or dinner guests.
Large bay windows and French windows let in light to the interior spaces and enhance the feeling of continuity with the beautiful outside surroundings. They also ensure excellent thermal conditions inside. During the winter the villa is a natural greenhouse with the heat of the sun being drawn inside and in summer - thanks to the automatic curtain system – it becomes shady, cool and ventilated.
The four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a large laundry area are connected to the living room by a room furnished with an iron desk and bookshelves in stone.
The master bedroom is furnished with king sized bed on a beautifully hand crafted solid beech wood structure. A French window offers a wonderful view of the Olive grove outside and the fully functioning fireplace warms the winter days. There is ample wall length built in wardrobe space and one of the doors leads to the ensuite bathroom.
In the master bathroom the sink is carved from a single block of Carrara marble. The bathroom is equipped with both a shower and bath which are separated from the toilet area by two large pieces of glass. The french window leads to an outdoor shower.
The second and third bedroom are composed of a dressing room, an ensuite bathroom, the main bedroom and a patio door that allows independent access in and out without passing through the rest of the villa.
The two bathrooms have tall and curved walls, covered with mosaic, and receive a soft diffused light from skylights, these also provided with an electric opening system.
The fourth bedroom has been converted from an attic room with exposed beams and has it own private bathroom.
During October the olives are harvested and the olive oil of the house is produced. The olives are picked by hand and pressed in the local oil mill of Borgo Carige for an annual production of 400 litres of extra virgin olive oil.
The beautiful and highly tended garden is infused with the scents of rosemary, myrtle, lavender, jasmine and agave. A path of lavender leads to the infinity pool that has an advanced chlorine free water treatment system and is surrounded by a thick lawn. A wooden arbor defines a shaded area which gives access to the changing room complete with bathroom and shower.
