A lovely, peaceful "home away from home" in an idyllic setting near Ivy River. The house is just a mile from I-26....equal distance from Wolf Laurel skiing/snow tubing and Asheville with its excellent restaurants, galleries, music & microbreweries.
Whether your trip to our mountains includes enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of Asheville, whitewater rafting, hiking the AT, leaf-looking, cycling, trout fishing, ziplines in the mountain canopy, snow skiing, or just finding the ultimate space to relax, this is the perfect location. Your lovely two-story, “home away from home” is ideally situated to allow easy access to all of the above and more (specifics below). This secluded, yet sunny spot is a great place to “get away from it all.” The loudest noises you’ll hear at night are crickets and an occasional screech owl and unless you turn on the porch lights, the brightest night lights will be the stars and moon.
Just over a mile from I-26, this two-bedroom, two-bath house is nestled in the hills above Ivy River, 20 minutes north of Asheville. The upper level has a "great room" incorporating a well-equipped “cook’s” kitchen, dining area and living room with plenty of sunny windows throughout. Also on the upper level are a bedroom with queen bed and a full bath with shower and extra deep tub.
On the lower level are a large, sunny, general-purpose room, the second bedroom (also with queen bed) and the other full bathroom (no tub).
A wonderful feature of this house is its large upper-level deck with gas grill, dining table and chairs, a rocker and patio chairs. It's a great place to dine on a summer evening, enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a busy day or stargaze without the interference of city lights.
IMPORTANT!! The house comes with a sweet, friendly feline to keep you company. Bodie will count on you to tend to him while I'm away so if you've never been a cat owner, this is probably not the place for you. He has an automatic feeder so there's no need to be here at his meal times.
I've called these mountains "home" for over 40 years and love introducing them to visitors. Guidebooks, maps and brochures will be available for your perusal. For breakfast, there'll be homemade maple granola, yogurt and juice or you can drive just 10 minutes to memorably good croissants, breakfast stratas and great coffee at Well Bred Bakery in Weaverville.
Only TV stations available are three different PBS channels, ABC and occasionally Fox. Satellite internet connection.
There's no public transport, but look where your car can take you....

Guests have access to the entire house including full use of the well-equipped kitchen.
Since I only rent my house when I'm traveling, I may not be here to greet you, but am always available by phone should you have questions or need additional information or directions. The house will be entirely yours.
GPS has a difficult time finding my house, so please be sure to bring along a copy of my directions.
Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay.
Please note that four is the absolute maximum number of guests (including infants and children) the house will accommodate. High school/college students must be accompanied by a parent or other adult. If you have small children, please take a moment to "childproof" all rooms as appropriate.
I don't charge a cleaning fee, but ask that you honor my request to leave the house as clean and in order as you will find it. Used sheets and towels should be left on top the washer in the bathroom.
After many years working in education, public health and health research, I retired in 2012 to pursue my personal passion of making a new birth option, a free-standing midwife-staffed birth center, available to women/couples in Western North Carolina.
My other passions are competitive rowing, cooking and travel. I've had the good fortune to travel in Central and South America, lived in France and was a Peace Corps volunteer in French West Africa.
I designed, acted as general contractor and helped build my home and am excited about making it available to visitors when I have to be away for extended periods.
Eating out with friends is one of my favorite social activities so I have lots of recommendations when it comes to dining in Asheville. My radio dial is stuck on our local NPR station, WCQS.
