I'm a PhD student mostly working from home, looking forward to hosting people in my cosy and sunny mostly renovated 1960 house. There are two guest rooms - a double and twin. This listing is for the twin ( 2 single beds) see my other listing to book the double. I can swap a one bed for a desk. The house is close to the Wainuiomata River with beautiful walks from the back gate. By car it's 15 mins to Day's Bay and 25 mins to Wellington CBD (off peak). The CBD is 50 mins by public transport .
The house is a great place to relax with a log fire, patio and big trees in the sunny garden. Lots of books and a sleepy cat complete the picture. The bedroom can have either two beds or a bed and a desk. There is also a double room as a separate listing. Please use the other listing if you want to book the room with the double bed. A discount applies if you book both rooms - total NZ$70 per night for up to four people and 10% or 20% discounts for week / month bookings.
The house and garden are available to guests except my own room and a room currently being renovated. There is a new fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher. The dining room doubles as my home office while the new study / library is being renovated, but I have an office in Wellington as well.
I'm happy to do all I can to make your stay most enjoyable. I'd be very willing to provide a special dinner or two (I have catered a wedding and a couple of other events), although I can't promise as it depends a bit on work pressure and events. I'm certainly happy to help you with local knowledge and good places to visit.
My cat is about 15 years old with a spinal condition that affects her back legs and - sorry - can affect her toileting. She needs a little grace sometimes.
Please note that AirBnB shows this property if you search for Palliser Bay, but Palliser Bay is not directly accessible from here. The Wainuiomata south coast is 25mins drive but that is the end of the road. To get to Palliser Bay it's about 300km return, via the Rimutaka Ranges. You can do this as a great full day trip with a car, but If you want to get there quickly you're best to book somewhere in the South Wairarapa.
- I have an elderly cat. She's friendly, but needs gentle handling - important for children. It's also a shoes-off house (slippers OK) because of the flooring and garden.
I'm a full time PhD student with the the University of Otago, and a specialist in health, wellbeing and design for child care and kindergarten environments. I love good food and wine, conversation and good books. I'm interested in almost everything except organised sport (sorry - failed Kiwi on that point). I very much enjoy hospitality and making my guests feel welcome and cared for.
