My 2 girlfriends and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Havana. A large part of our enjoyment came from the fantastic treatment we received from our hosts, Aurora and Miguel! They picked us up from the airport in their '50s car, and patiently waited while I was stuck in a separate airport terminal from my friends waiting for my luggage. Our hosts spent time telling us about themselves and their beautiful family, brought us random items (like scissors and tape) on request, spent time running around the city to help my friend pick up money from Western Union, and took us back to the airport at the end of our trip. Here are some highlights from our stay:
LOCATION: We absolutely loved the location of the apartment. It was right near the water and was perfectly situated for nighttime strolls along the Malecon. There were several restaurants conveniently located right next door to the building. It was also very helpful to have a classy hotel, cabstand, and wifi card salesman a couple of blocks away. We were always able to exchange money and find a cab. Although we weren't in Old Havana, we were close enough to get there in approximately 10 mins by cab and there is still an active nightlife in the neighborhood.
APARTMENT: The photos accurately depict the apartment. Everything is remodeled and up-to-date. The A/C in the rooms work very well. The beds are comfortable. The water temperature and pressure were perfect. The drinks in the fridge are a nice touch and were cheaper than what you'd find at any store/restaurant. The space was perfect for our group of 3. Also, there are safes in both bedrooms (like those you'd find in hotels in the States. This set my mind at ease and was a huge and unexpected plus for me.
CELL PHONE: They provided us with a Cuban cell phone that came in handy and eased our anxiety about communicating with them and others while we were in town.
I have no negatives for our AirBnB experience with Aurora & Miguel! They made our first trip to Cuba comfortable and fun. I highly recommend them to new and seasoned travelers to La Habana!
