The best of both worlds - enjoy the comforts of Horseshoe Cottage and the romance of Ruby. Delight in the magic and tranquillity of this special combination to offer space and timelessness where you can enjoy sleeping under the stars and travel without travelling ....
Horseshoe Cottage - originally stables for the horses which used to plough the surrounding farmland, the cottage is now converted into a colourful, light-filled hideaway. Decorated in beautiful jewel like shades in eco friendly paint reflecting the authentic colours of Ruby and brings a healthy glow to the cottage. There is a spacious bright sitting room with a view of the woodland garden with Ruby who sits beneath the pine trees, and the Eildon Hills beyond. The accommodation also comprises galley kitchen, bedroom with double bed and another with twin beds and bathroom with shower.
The cottage is warm and cosy with oil fired central heating as well as the ambience of a wood burning stove.
Well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, small tv and dvd combo cd and radio, games, books and toys are there for your pleasure. The kitchen has all you will need for cooking up a storm with standard oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, etc.
Ruby Bowtop - in the woodland garden in front of the cottage is a secret hideaway ... beneath the trees, as if time stood still, rests an authentic 1930's Romany Caravan, living wagon. Experience sleeping under the stars in a lovingly restored bowtop, now with electric light and heater as well as full sized double bed.
Step up into bed and immerse yourselves in the maroon and deep pink lace which cascades around you and enter another world (sssh a little secret, actually 'lingerie lace' which seems just perfect!
With room for two, escape into the magic of the nomadic life and recapture the essence of being free and living amongst nature.
Suitable for couples to enjoy lots of space together or bring friends. Families are welcome and the children can enjoy meandering through the woods, playing in the streams and waterfalls - just remember the wellies! And of course doggies welcome too into our cottage.
Nestled within Scots Pines and woodland there is a spacious wild garden in front and a colourful 'pot plant' entrance at the back. There is woodland car parking for two cars.
Horseshoe Cottage and Ruby are within a small private estate and the owners' house is nearby.
Woodland walks, waterfalls, St Cuthbert's Way, the River Tweed and the Eildon Hills are all nearby for the keen walker and wildlife enthusiast. Dark skies above invite star gazing, excellent for meteor showers and glimpses of the elusive Northern Lights.
We are almost always on site, and if not we have someone here. We can offer recommendations for bistros/restaurants to eat, must see places to visit, things to do, activities, walks, etc. so just ask us.
We give you our mobile number so you can ring us if you need to and can't find us.
Our small private estate also has other accommodation for guests but in a separate meadow.
If you have dogs (we welcome up to two well behaved dogs) then we like you to keep them on the lead whilst you are here, but there are many excellent walks from the end of our drive.
We also have dogs, two deerhound lurchers, i.e. big hairy loveable pets who live in our house nearby.
We have a few chickens and a couple of pet geese but don't worry they are all kept in a separate area, though Houdini Hen does escape and likes to come round looking for a crumb or two occasionally.
The cottage itself doesn't have separate wifi but you are welcome to use ours from our studio deck nearby.
- We would appreciate it if guests would be respectful of our accommodation.
- Ruby Bowtop is an authentic Gypsy caravan and is not a playhouse so young children must be supervised when inside and not climb on any of the outside. She is an old lady!
- Our accommodation is for a holiday stay only and is not to be used as a photoshoot. For film and fashion shoots please get in touch separately.
- We welcome up to two well behaved dogs in Horseshoe Cottage only, not Ruby Bowtop. Dogs must be kept on leads whilst on our land, there are lots of walks nearby to allow your dog to run around.
- This accommodation is for 4 guests only, if you wish extra guests please get in touch with us.
- Check in is 4-6 pm. If you are going to be later than 8pm there is a fee of £25.00
- We operate a strict cancellation policy
I live in Scotland and have an eco tourism business there with my husband. I am a Yoga teacher and my husband a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist. We live in the countryside with our 2 lurcher dogs, chickens and 2 pet geese. We have grown up twins, working in London and Canada. I love walking our dogs, healthy food, swimming in rivers, travelling, reading, colours, interesting interiors, dancing, music, singing, writing, spending time with friends and eating good food and red wine. Would like to find time to learn more about photography and learn to play my saxophone.
