My home is open plan, so suited to couples, close friends or young families (multi generational families may not have enough space or privacy). Sleeps up to 6 for a night or two, longer stay a maximum of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) is more realistic. 7 min walk to frequent buses to the city centre, 15 min ride - £3.50 adult return. Taxi £10 each way - 6 seat taxis are available. 5 min walk to kids park with tennis courts. 7 min walk to shopping centre with supermarkets, chemists & banks. Wifi 150mbps.
My home is a relaxed and cosy space, not at all formal, so if you have children you don't need to worry too much. It is an old house, and my every-day working home (my daughter and I move up-stairs or go on vacation when guests are here), so, although clean, will never be immaculate. The facilities all work ok if you treat them with respect, the plumbing in particular is old, but functional if you don't hammer it. The price reflects what you are getting, more budget than boutique, my home is not a hotel and shouldn't be confused with one, but I hope you will be more than happy with the level of comfort. Guests unfamiliar with Oxford prices may not be aware of how expensive this city (URL HIDDEN) is not dissimilar to London prices, so please book with a realistic attitude.
It is self contained so no sharing with others, apart from the washing machine in the cloak-room, which I also use, but we can agree appropriate times of use
The space can be quite adaptable. If you are a large group you can use the sitting-room as a bedroom, as the room is quite big, and there are curtains all the way round the room giving a certain level of privacy.
The bathroom only has access through the bedroom, being en-suite, however, there is another toilet and sink in the cloakroom under the stairs.
In the bedroom there are two single beds which, with addition of a mattress topper, can form a king size bed. There is a small double sofa bed, and a double loft bed above the wet-room. It is pretty high, but a lovely cosy private space when you are up there. There is also a baby mattress.
The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a fridge stocked with the basics for breakfast for your first mornings stay, ie bread, milk, eggs and (URL HIDDEN) meat of any sort for respect to Muslim and vegetarian guests....vegans can of course ask for the eggs to be removed.
The sitting-room has patio doors onto the garden at the back and guests are welcome to use the garden, which has a children's swing, wendy house & trampoline. There is also a private garden in the front, which guests are also welcome to use.
Parking for one car is right at the front of the property on a shared private driveway. The space is limited and cannot accommodate larger vehicles such as large vans or motor-homes. There are no parking permit areas in the locality so other parking can be found on a first come first serve basis.
The garden spaces are shared, but only with me and my daughter, but we do not use the back at all in the winter . The entrance hall is also communal. There is a key to main front door and also a key to the interior door to the flat. There are also keys to patio doors and the french doors, which I ask guests not to remove.
I will always be available to welcome guests and check them in and usually to wish you farewell and collect the keys. I am also contactable anytime for major problems with the flat, like fire or flood, and am usually contactable between 10am and 6pm for other minor problems or general information. I know the local area very well so should able to help you with most things. I have a six year old daughter so unfortunately I cannot be available after 7pm unless it is really urgent. For guests staying more than 3 nights, we can negotiate how often you may want the flat cleaned, bed linen changed and towels laundered. I am able to provide this service free of charge once a week, but more often there is a charge of £5 per person. There is a reasonable supply of towels in the flat, and an electrically heated towel rail (as well as the gas centrally heated radiators in the winter) to dry the towels between washes. There is also a portable heated clothes dryer. For guests staying one month or over, I will not be able to offer any services unless they are paid.
The internet occasionally develops an aversion to new users and can go down for a few hours before it decides it likes you. Turn off at the wall. Turn on and try again.
Please no sanitary wear or baby wipes etc down the toilets...THEY WILL BLOCK.
Please no candles
Please never double lock the front door....others need access and you have a lock to your private space so there is no security risk.
It would be much appreciated if guests would take off their shoes, particularly coming in from the back garden.
