A first-rate pad. Traveling through Norfolk on business, I found Mike's place to suite my needs, and more. Besides a great location, a full kitchen, and a reasonable amount of space, the apartment was nicely decorated, with wonderfully creaky floors and an air of history and soul. Plus, it came outfitted with snacks and drinks and lots of linens; the check-in, too, couldn't have been better, and the place was peacefully quiet while I was there. Be aware: there are stairs, and the sloped ceiling might be a concern for taller folks; but these would be non-issues for most. I quite enjoyed myself here, and would gladly return. Big thanks to the host, for providing a place for me in my travels :D
I stayed at Mike's place with my 17 year-old daughter who attended a week-long medical camp at EVMS. We found the place very inviting, very well maintained, and exactly the way Mike described it and showed in his pictures. Mike's apartment is located in the historic Gent district of Norfolk, a very quiet neighborhood and very close to EVMS (my daughter only had a 5 minute walk to get there). It is also close to many restaurants, and is within walking distance to grocery stores. Communication with Mike was very easy. He welcomed us when we arrived, gave us a thorough tour of his place, and recommended a couple of his favorite places to eat. At the apartment, there were drinks waiting in the refrigerator and a few snacks on the table. During our stay, we made trips to Williamsburg (an hour drive) and Virginia Beach (35 min drive). Since we had our car, we didn't have to use public transportation. Both my daughter and I have enjoyed the few days spent at Mike's place and we would definitely recommend it.
