HURRICANE NOTICE ( I expect to lose power for an extended periond of time and wont be able to communicate. As soon as things are back to normal this notice will be deleted. Sorry bout that!)........... A small, restful, cottage with a large screen porch, kitchenette, and full bath with hilltop views of a 40-acre pasture. Cows, cattle egrets, sandhill cranes, and other wildlife are often seen from the cottage porch or kitchen table.

Located near the historic and scenic "Old Florida" villages of Micanopy, Evinston, and McIntosh, this two room"cottage" looks like an old Southern "tenant farmers shack" with a large screen porch. But is brand new, with all the modern amenities including satellite TV. Cell phone and WiFi reception is good.

One room is a '"great room" with a single and a double bed, end table, chest of drawers, kitchen island, dining table, TV, ceiling fan/ light, and kitchenette. A sliding glass door to the 12 x 24 screen porch where another table offers front porch dining and great views of the back pasture, like those shown in the photos. The other room is a full bathroom with a shower/ tub and a vanity/ sink.

You are just a short ride from the Scenic Old Florida villages of McIntosh, Evinston and Micanopy and several state and county parks. Plenty of back roads, hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities nearby.

There are lots of horse farms in the area. The Animal Dynamics Equine Sports Therapy School and the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine are short drives away from the cottage for students who wish to stay in the country and not commute from Gainesville or Ocala

The nearby historic village of McIntosh is full of large Victorian homes, with giant oaks and tall palms. There are no strip malls or chain restaurants in McIntosh. Just a scenic village frozen in time like Florida was before the tourist boom started. There is even a low power FM radio station out of McIntosh which plays a mixture of Blue Grass, Southern Gospel, and 1950s Rock music, a rare example of rural Americana. (It is only 72 watts, has a very limited range and is often off the air but is interesting to listen to for something different when you can pick it up)

This is not the Florida of the theme parks and high rise hotels. It is Florida like it used to be.

Guests have the use of the cottage and the fenced yard with outdoor chairs and end tables. They can come and go whenever they please without having to open and close a gate unless they desire to do so. There is room to park next to the cottage for two vehicles. There is a circular driveway around the cottage. Large SUVs and pickup trucks can use it but it is narrow and tight so drive slowly and carefully.

RVs and extra vehicles can be parked 60 feet away.

I will give guests complete privacy if desired and will gladly answer any questions they have about the local restaurants, attractions (guide printout provided) and scenic back roads, or even where some good public mountain bike or 4WD trails are. They can just chill out in the cottage or go exploring during the day to return to their comfortable base at night.

I live next door, separated by a privacy fence, with 2 black Labrador retrievers. They bark on occasion at night at the local wildlife but never for long. They can be brought inside my residence at night if their barking disturbs you.

A new larger hot water heater has been installed as the old one was too small to fill up the bathtub. A new refrigerator has also been added. A new larger AC unit was put in in June and the cottage is well insulated so blankets are provided for those who like to keep it cool at night in the summer

A new water treatment system has been installed which has ended the iron water problems from the well. A large Brita filtered water pitcher is also provided for guests, who want to filter the tap water further

The kitchenette has utensils provided. A refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, counter top toaster oven, blender, electric skillet and hotplate is provided. There is no full-size oven range or dishwasher due to the small space available in the cottage. A portable, two tier garment rack will be provided upon request. A fan for the screen porch will be provided upon request. For longer stays, fresh bedding and towels will be provided every week.Cleaning materials, broom, mop, etc are provided for the guests to use on longer stays. I clean up and make the beds ONE time per booking. On longer stays, the guests will be expected to make their own beds with the clean bedding provided every week. Clean bath towels, wash cloths will also be provided every week for longer stays.

The cows may not always be visible as they are sometimes on an adjacent pasture or may be pulled off the property by their owner.

A relaxing and peaceful stay. Very friendly host and a nice fenced in area for dogs. Minimal cooking space, but we were still easily able to cook for ourselves. Continental breakfast was provided (one of only a few airbnb I have been to that does). A little far from restaurants, but the privacy is part of the package.

Un lugar tranquilo y campestre para descansar. Mark es muy amable.

Mark's place was a stellar value with country charm. The setting is quiet and peaceful. Not far at all from quaint Micanopy and nightlife in Gainsville. Mark has taken special care to ensure that all guests are comfortable. Overall, an amazing stay!

My fiancé and our pup stayed in Mark's cottage for 4 nights and we had a blast! Our dog loved the yard and we enjoyed hanging out on the screened-in porch, just relaxing. The town of Micanopy is fun to explore, lots of antique shops. We also drove into Gainesville to check out Dogwood Park (awesome dog park) and some botanical gardens. Also, Devil's Den isn't far away (only about 30 minutes) and was a neat experience. I highly recommend Mark's cottage. My fiancé and I are already talking about when we can go back.

This is the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing, and refreshing escape. I stayed here with my husband and dogs and everyone had a blast! The dogs loved the large, fenced back yard and my husband and I enjoyed many long hours on the porch watching the cows and drinking wine. It's a good spot to use as home base if you want to check out the local springs, parks, and trails. We can't wait to book again with Mark! Everything was fantastic and he was a terrific host.

The cottage was exactly the quiet space I needed to clear my head and get some work done. :) I absolutely intend to come back!

Great place for a quiet stay away from he bustle. Mark was very helpful and thorough

I am educated, well traveled, physically active, and friendly. I did a lot of adventure travel to foreign countries in the 1980s from trekking in Nepal and Tibet to visiting China in 1983, India, Burma, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, PI, Viet Nam, and Central America, and enjoy experiencing different cultures and meeting new people.

A native Floridian with family roots going back to the 1880s and a long time resident of the area, I can offer insights about the local area that you wont find in a stay in a motel or theme park.

As your host I will give you complete privacy if you wish but will be always responsive to any of your needs or requests.
