Our stylish, renovated 1940's-era apartment is the perfect spot to spend a month…or more. Great morning and afternoon light, and only ten minutes’ walk to the Plaza, galleries, the farmer's market and downtown. There's a kiva fireplace, a private, fenced backyard and a shared courtyard with a lovely chestnut tree. Groceries are a five-minute walk. Bi-weekly linen service is on us, as is cleaning service depending on the length of stay. We live on-site and love introducing guests to Santa Fe!
There are two roomy closets in the bedroom, which offers a queen-sized bed. Although you won't need it, there's air-conditioning throughout as well as a cute washer-dryer combo in the kitchen. You'll have everything you need to cook meals...although there are more than enough restaurants (from home cooking to five stars) to keep you out of the kitchen. There's a sofa bed in the living area for an extra guest. Tub/shower combo in the bathroom. Free wifi, of course.
You'll have full, private access to the apartment and its back yard, which includes a patio (and a vegetable/flower garden if the season is right). You will enter the apartment from the shared courtyard, which is a fun place to gather and mingle in the warmer weather. Street parking.
We leave it to our guests to decide their preferred level of interaction with us, as we live on-site, although we're generally social people who love sharing time with guests and visitors, especially in summer when the courtyard is at its best. By now, having had a few guests, we can safely say that it's common in good weather to meet for a drink or a chat--or sometimes a full meal--under the chestnut tree. We're always available to answer questions or lend a hand.
This property consists of three units organized around a central courtyard. We live in one, a year-round tenant (lovely person and now his wife as well) occupies the other, and the third is the rental listed here. Everyone gets along splendidly--but if you are exceptionally private, this rental is probably not for you. That said, because we're organized around an interior courtyard, the apartment is sheltered from the street. The back yard has a mature apricot tree for shade.
- City of Santa Fe requires quiet after 10 p.m.
- We prefer (but don't require) guests to remove shoes or wear "house shoes" while indoors as we have hardwood floors. Also, this is a vintage 1940s apartment and floors can be cool in the winter (although ambient air temps are great with our new heating units). So slippers will help you to feel most comfortable.
Finally, this is a family compound organized around a central courtyard. There is a certain amount of interaction as a result--but nothing overbearing. Just be advised that you have neighbors and this is not a freestanding unit.
I'm a writer and editor, married to a native Santa Fean, with two truly marvelous kids. We love to travel and have lived abroad (Greece, 5.5 years, we miss it). We're very happy hosts, ready to share a meal or help you find the heartbeat of this wonderful place.
