Len stayed up until we arrived at midnight. he was very friendly and explained everything. to get to downtown manhatten is an easy ride from the house if you take the subway, like we did all the time. the neighborhood is good and you don't feel uncomfortable walking there at night. the other hosts we met were nice and helpful if we had any questions.

If you are a single student backpacker type and don't mind staying in a tiny room in an old rundown building with communal bathroom down the hall and a common room w one sofa and TV for the whole floor, this place is clean and cheap. Our room had window AC, the hosts kept in touch well, and key pickup and return was easy. But as an over 40 couple just staying overnight, with the cleaning and extra person charges, we wish we'd stayed at a cheap hotel for a little more $. From the description and glowing reviews, we were expecting more and were turned off by lack of privacy, no place to put suitcases, horrible mattress, and how rundown it was. We felt like we were walking into a tenement building with chipped paint, patched woodwork, and shabby carpets. It had been cleaned, no bugs, bathroom was updated, but everything else was still rundown. Don't be fooled by the Park Slope address: the original brownstone has not been remodeled like many others in this neighborhood, but is still chopped up into tiny tenement-style rooms, which is what the enterprising tenants are renting on Airbnb. Our one outlet had an extension cord for the AC lying across the floor, waiting for someone to trip over it. The communal bathroom, along with the shared kitchen and room w TV, was way down the hall, past many doors, reminiscent of college dorm days, and we shared these with other Airbnbers and a family with kids who were permanent residents. We thought we should have been charged less for being the farthest from the bathroom. Breakfast looked good, but no space to sit down, and barely got one cup of coffee by draining dregs (ugh!) of 2 small carafes, with no creamer and only sugar or Splenda for sweetener. Host was busy cooking and in no hurry to make more. The outdoor seating was a bare picnic table amidst repulsive backyard chaos. Organization was good, except host tried to get next guest into our room 15 minutes before checkout- he waited as we were packing up. Awkward. Hint: as an older couple, we definitely felt out of place and palpably unwelcome among younger guests. You get what you pay for, but still we were disappointed by this listing's description. We would never stay here again or recommend it to others, which is a shame because it's close to our daughter's apartment. Just wanted to warn others who might be misled, too. We hope this host will update description to be more realistic!

Len and the other hosts were welcoming, accommodating, and easy to communicate with. They made me feel like part of the community even though I was only there briefly. I'd stay here again.

Len's home -- because he treats his guests like extended family -- was a wonderful experience. Clean, quiet room, nice bathrooms, and kitchens for guests' use, and an AMAZING breakfast each morning were just some of the great parts of my stay there. Close to beautiful Prospect Park, many great ethnic restaurants, and easily accessible to Manhattan via nearby Metro stations all add up to a wonderful place for a stay in NY. I plan to return!

My stay here was great. I was really weary of using AirBnB just because it would've been my first time going out to NY and wasn't sure how it would go, but it was fantastic. I really loved the fact that it was so close to the Barclays Center because that is where my concert that I was attending was being held and it was literally like a 4-5 blocks away. I arrived at the house at around 3am and Len was awake and let me in right away. I wasn't at all bothered during my stay and was offered breakfast, which I did not eat because I was still asleep the entire time they served it lol. I also really loved the fact that I would come back to the house every night at around 3-4am and no one said anything bout it. Just have to be quiet of course because of the sleeping child in the house, but that was no bother to me because I am used to having to be quiet because of not wanting to wake sleeping babies. The only downside to everything was the transport time it took me to get to the house from the airport. Being a girl who loves to use public transport, for some reason, I wanted to take the subway there (I know, shocking, who wants to take the subway right?) but because of all of the construction happening around La Guardia, which was my landing airport, it took well over an hour. It wasn't a huge inconvenience or anything, at least not to me but I did feel bad about having Len wait up 'til I got to the house. I guess I would just say make sure you know how to ride public transport or aren't afraid of getting lost. (You can always take and Uber/Lyft there and it'll be much easier lol.) Overall, I would definitely stay here again and would recommend 100% to my friends and family if they ever need a place to stay. The fact that it is in Brooklyn in no way altered my plans because you can take the subway literally anywhere from here, and I did. Thank you so much for having your place as a listing on here.

Spent only a couple of nights, but had two comfortable nights (URL HIDDEN) flight was delayed but Len stayed up to check me in, and even chatted a long time, explaining everything I needed to know...this is an interesting building, like an airbnb co-op where all the different tennants host people....they provide a breakfast together (and brunch on Sundays) ... I was too busy to attend myself, but it smelled delicious! And a lovely neighbourhood that I had not spent much time in before

I'm Len. I'm an amateur cook and vegetable gardener, an entrepreneur, and a traveler, by bicycle whenever possible.

I live in the first floor apartment of my beautiful four story brownstone in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. My cousin Tania (https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/9772800) lives on the 2nd floor, and we're both new hosts on AirBnB.

I try to assist all kinds of travelers by offering more than just some space and a bed. Explorers on a budget, families, young professionals, and experienced business travelers have different needs, and Prospect Heights can be a great neighborhood for all of you.

For now, my listing(s) will be for travelers booking short stays in the next 60 days.

Tania's are aimed at visitors coming for longer stays or planning further ahead (no instant booking, but we respond quickly).

Let us know how we can help with your visit to Brooklyn and to New York City.

AirBnB suggests sharing a "five favorites" list. Why not? I've traveled to dozens of destinations all over the United States and Canada, and around the world for work and for holidays.

Some of my all-time favorite trips, in no special order:

-Three weeks on the South Island of New Zealand. My first time celebrating New-Years-Eve in Summer. Made new friends and saw a landscape that is even more amazing in person than in the Lord of the Rings movies, no special effects required.

-My first visit to Vietnam in 2006 for a weeklong wedding celebration then a not-for-tourists tour led by locals: the newlyweds! (Yes, my friends still got a great honeymoon, after a week of hosting 10 guests, not just for a home, but for a country).

-Nine weeks bicycling in France. French food is probably my favorite, and with "cyclotourism" holidays there is almost no limit to how much I can enjoy without putting on pounds.

-My first ever cycling tour, from Los Angeles to San Francisco, with two old friends from high school not long after University. The scenery, meeting other cyclists while camping, and the feeling of accomplishment each day made me a convert to vacations spent pedaling.

-On a business trip to Manilla in early November 2000, I got to watch a peaceful political revolution across the street from my room! At the same time, I was following the news: voters back home in the US were learning that it can take more than just an election to decide who gets to be president.

If you read this far...well, thanks again! I hope to hear from you.
