Fabulous holiday cottage, full of character located in the village of Churston Ferrers, within easy reach of Brixham, Dartmouth, Totnes and Dartmoor. The rural location, close to beaches and the river Dart makes an ideal base for an active holiday. The vast dining hall is perfect for special family or group meals, and the log burners make for cosy nights in. Dog and child friendly with enclosed gardens. Two double bedrooms, one twin room. Private parking with space for a boat trailer.
The Old School House is lovely cottage full of history and period features, situated on the edge of open countryside.
Originally the village school, it was used to billet US officers during WWII, as a parish meeting place before finally being converted into a warm and welcoming home.
The building itself is Grade II listed and built from local stone in a Tudor style. The wow factor is the vast dining room, originally a classroom, which has a vaulted ceiling and a mezzanine level. It's a perfect space for extended families or groups of friends to hold celebratory meals - easy with both an Aga and a conventional oven on which to cook.
In summer the walled garden is a sun trap and perfect for barbecues. In the winter the wood burning stoves make for cosy nights in.
The Old School House is annexed to The School Master's Cottage which is an entirely separate two bedroom cottage. Both properties may be let together to provide larger families or groups of friends as Churston Old School House.

We bought The Old School House and School Master’s Cottage on the 16th April 2014, exactly 150 years after the foundation stone was laid by Lady Churston. Although we currently live and work in London, Devon is "home". This is not an investment property, we intend to relocate here before too long, and meanwhile visit regularly. We love the house and the surrounding area, and the relaxed outdoor life. Our dog loves the variety of walks - and the pubs.
The house is run by our property manager Wendy, who lives locally.
The two cottages can be booked together as Churston Old School House.
