Comfortable, light and sunny, roomy cottage, sleeps 4 with 2 bathrooms, with a large sunny garden room and a cosy, booklined sitting room with wood burner. Beaminster is an attractive town, 'a most desirable place to live' according to Sunday Times, fairly near Bridport, lovely walks from the door,
I do welcome you to spend a little time in this lovely newly refurbished cottage. It's comfortable without being too precious or fussy. There are Granny's chairs and bed ends, curtains brought back from Kashmir, rugs from the Middle East, my stone carvings in the garden, plenty of books, a cook's modern kitchen with plenty of recipe books, and a plantswoman's garden. All the main rooms are south facing so even in winter, a glimpse of sun will cheer you up. The new double glazing, central heating plus a woodburner will keep you cosy.
Three steps lead to the front door, a lobby and WC and then a large slate floored kitchen, with electric hob and double oven, a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, and fridge freezer. Through to a large garden room with dining table and easy chairs, and then a sitting room with woodburner, tv, pod dock. Open stairs lead to two bedrooms, one with double bed and an ensuite shower room, and the other with 3' twin beds, which can also zip together to make a 6' bed, all made up with fresh white cotton bed linen. There is another bathroom with bath and shower over. Wireless broadband is available but no telephone.
It's a home designed for my pleasure and comfort, which hopefully matches yours.
Guests will have access to almost everything except one locked bedroom (bed 3) and one cupboard in the second bedroom. Other wardrobes and drawers will be free for their use. The larder will have spices, oils and vinegars and staples. All I ask is that you use sparingly, and replace anything that runs out or gets very low.
You are welcome to read my books but please don't take them away.
You can use the washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, tv etc and hairdryer.
I will be easily contactable via the site and should respond within 24 hours. Guests are encouraged to email me with any queries. A friend and neighbour will be on hand to help, and they will have any relevant telephone numbers. I will leave plenty of house and location information.
Minimum stay is one week
When you arrive, it is OK to park in the field entrance opposite to unload.
Please do not park in the space in front of my house as it is not mine.
When you are settled, follow the footpath around the garden wall and slightly downhill and you will find my parking space. If you have a smallish car, (Mondeo or smaller) and are confident, then do please use this space,
accessing it from a little further down the road.
HINT Don't try to reverse into the space. Drive straight in to park.
Reverse uphill to get out and then exit the lane downhill. Believe me!
Otherwise please park considerately on the road, but not, please in the field entrance, except to unload.
If you intend to drive in the country lanes, I would not recommend bringing your large smart very expensive car!
The cottage is on a road so there is a little traffic, but it's not busy or incessant and there is no other background traffic noise, so it is mostly very quiet.
Please be advised, it's not a huge tv. It's Sony, flat screen and has free view channels, and there is a Logik DVD player. There are radios and a Pod dock.
It is a semi detached house but one hears nothing through the thick walls, although obviously playing very loud music is not appropriate in this environment.
- No food or outside shoes upstairs
Please be aware that polished surfaces will mark with hot or wet cups and plates. There should be plenty of mats and coasters around. Thanks.
I have lived in West Dorset since 2000 and having lived and worked in other parts of the UK and abroad I really think this area is hard to beat. I have been renovating this cottage for two years and now am happy to share the space with guests. Sometimes the entire house will be available and sometimes I would be happy to host guests for B&B. I love walking, horse riding and the surprising amount of culture there is down here, from international standard concerts to original quirky Arts Reach productions. I also walk a great deal as it's very good walking country. You are welcome to read my books, tinkle on the piano and use odd bits from the larder to complete your recipes. I or my neighbours will be on hand for any queries you may have, and I am delighted to enable you to enjoy the cottage and West Dorset. I know you'll treat my home with care.
