The red room is the most intimate and cozy of the house. You may sit on the large windowsill and look through the only window in the room, on the valley surrounded by the mountains.
We have two more rooms available here: "the Orange Room" and "the Green Room". Check it always on AIRBNB.
For poets, naturalists, thinkers, writers, and lovers of peace: a house in the woods. ‘Aran’.
Located on the mountainside along the trail to the Sanctuary of Santa Cristina, our home is surrounded by chestnuts, birches, hazels and aromatic plants, it present itself as the entrance to the Val d'Ala. The stone house, ingeniously built in 1888, is South-facing, receiving the full power of sun and moonlight.
Here at ‘Aran’ we cultivate a small botanical garden and vegetable garden, both in steady expansion. We study and collect wild herbs with which to prepare delicious and healing dishes, teas and oils. You may try our jams and make whole grain bread with our ground flour. We follow and support an almost completely vegan diet. There are chickens, geese and ducks free to roam and feed in our forest that will give you fresh eggs every morning. In the forest you may find an apiary made up of about 20 families of bees. We breed them with methods based on respect, and inspect with constant commitment to create a healthy environment for them.
We live in a simple and at the same moment full and satisfying way, taking away rather than adding. We try to make our sustainable living each day, wondering what we can do to reduce the impact on our environment.
You can visit us and thus support a small nascent reality, we want to be based on self-sufficiency, nutrition healing, the use of sustainable products and natural agriculture inspired by the message of Japanese author Fukuoka.
We open the doors to anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of the forest and the stillness of nature, as we are located about 3 kilometers away from the first house inhabited. We welcome you in a quiet place to write, read or simply linger on the little things.
We offer you a nice room to sleep in, a desk, internet, a balcony overlooking the valley and a bathroom with a small tub spiced by mountain views and hot water in abundance. The rooms are cozy and fully heated by two stoves (also used to cook) as well as a large fireplace.
Just outside, you may explore the forest surrounding the house, or hang a hammock or a slack line and enjoy nature, between chestnuts trees, streams, terraces and gigantic rocks.
In addition, hidden in our woods, we offer a small stone shelter to meditate while listening to a trickle of water flowing from the rock.
For now we have three different rooms available but we are working to provide more accommodation, not only inside the house but also in the woods.
We live here throughout the year, and it is part of our philosophy to share spaces and activities with guests as much as the guest wishes to. At the same time we are very discrete with anyone who wants to live an intimate experience on his own.
We spend most of our time working in the garden or with the bees, cooking or reading, writing or filling in housework.
You’d often meet us in the kitchen, in the garden or on the terrace to share a warm herbal tea over a chat.
Our place is reachable only on foot or with an off-road vehicle through a short forest road.
If you arrive at Ceres by car we suggest you park the car in the town center. There is plenty of free parking spots there. You can walk up to ‘Aran’ following the signs of CAI (Italian Alpine Club) for the Sanctuary of Santa Cristina, dipping slowly into the woods. The journey lasts less than half an hour and it is easy and well marked. We can provide you with detailed directions to reach us, including GPS coordinates.
Otherwise we are happy to pick you up with off-road, whether you are at the train station or at the parking, and bring you up in a few minutes.
This is entirely up to you and the kind of stay you’re looking to enjoy.
