This house is very French - you can be in no doubt as to which country you are in when you are staying here. The house is a little old fashioned in some ways – don’t expect ultra modern power showers in glass enclosed wet areas – but it is very comfortable, and well equipped. There are three bedrooms two downstairs and one upstairs on a gallery. The beds in the two rooms we used (downstairs) are standard doubles and comfortable. The master bedroom has a large ensuite bathroom but the shower is hand-held. The second room downstairs has a shower and basin with a toilet adjacent.
There was a welcome pack of milk, butter, some homemade jam, some sugar, a small sweet loaf, and an indeterminate bag of children's cereal. There are coffee makers, a kettle, and more saucepans than you can shake a stick at. All in all a very pleasant place to stay near the centre of Maureillas with the square just a few steps away with a bar and two restaurants. The church, and a couple of baker's are a few steps further, and there is a small supermarket on the main road.
Janine was a lovely host (but has little English), and we did have one problem contacting her when we got there - her phone number appeared not to work. We were fortunate in that we were visiting friends in Maureillas who know Janine personally, but had that not been the case we could well have had problems gaining entry. I would suggest that you make sure you can make contact before you leave home.
Will we return? Definitely the place is lovely, and there is nothing to beat sitting in the morning sun in the courtyard at the back with fresh French bread, home made jam, fresh coffee, and croissants.
