Welcome to our little island cabin. Our cabin is a fully self contained guesthouse, perched atop of a hill, nestled in the trees. We're located in a rural setting, providing a great home base for families or couples wanting to relax and unwind, but still be close to Mayne Island's best areas. We are a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal; walk, bike or drive over, for convenient access to everything the island has to offer.
Our cabin is bright and open, with exposed wood beams and large windows overlooking the trees. Clean modern, lines mixed with reclaimed wood floors, vintage rugs and stained glass add a heritage feel to the space. The main floor has a well equipped kitchen, a dining area for 6, a comfortable living room and an additional "den" area in front of the fire for winter weekends, the bathroom and the office nook. The smallest of the three bedrooms is also located on the main floor. There is a lovely little deck off the kitchen with patio furniture for four.
We do not have a TV; instead we welcome you to relax and unplug. If you bring a laptop there are several books of DVDs available for you to watch. We also have a very large and eclectic collection of audio in various vintages. There is also a CD player and a cable for you to play the contents of your iphone. There are cards, games, books and design magazines, which you are welcome to enjoy at your leisure.
Two additional bedrooms are located on the second floor; the master bedroom is a loft that overlooks the living space below. It is a large room with a comfortable queen size bed, vintage mid century furniture, a walk in closet and a great view of the treetops. The loft is located at the end of the hall; it is very private, but guest should be aware that there is no door to this room, and it is acoustically open to the rest of the house.
The second upstairs bedroom has a queen size bed and an twin size upper bunk (best suited to a child, though adults have slept there as well). This room is quiet and has a small window facing south.
The smallest bedroom is on the main floor of the house; this room has a very comfortable twin size day bed that can be expanded to a queen size complete with mattress topper. It is a lovely cozy nest and is located off the entry and next to the bathroom.
All bedrooms are furnished with fresh new linens and bedding for a comfortable nights sleep.
Kitchen and Food:
We love to cook and the kitchen is fully equipped with essentials. We also stock basic ingredients; seasonings, sugar, salt, pepper, flour, baking ingredients, tea, and dry goods, etc. If you have a specific question about what is there please don't hesitate to ask.
A few things to know about the kitchen: there is no dishwasher or microwave, we heat up everything in the oven and on the stove. There are two smaller fridges rather than the typical large kitchen fridge: we usually suggest one for drinks, the other for food. A cooler is also available to stock with ice and drinks on the deck, in the summer. There is a propane bbq available to use, on the deck.
We are as environmental as possible and compost and recycle at the cabin. You are welcome to compost everything that is not fish or meat. Recycling bins are provided for cans, plastic and paper; garbage is collected at the end of your stay or as required, for longer stays.
The house is placed on a half acre, near the back of the site, and is oriented north; there is a front yard and patio area that gets morning and evening sun. The deck attached to the main floor and is raised off of the yard by about 15 ft. The patio area has a picnic table, a large charcoal grilling area and a terra cotta Mexican Chimney for outdoor fires, when they are permitted.
The driveway and parking are at the foot of the property (not visible from the house), and can accommodate two cars easily. You will need to be comfortable with stairs to access the cabin. We have 6 "island" bikes that are yours to use during your stay to explore (they are safe and maintained, but of various vintages and certainly not bikes you'd want to do the tour-de-France in); biking into town is an easy way to get around if you foot passenger over.
Kids and infants are welcome; but please note that the cabin is not childproof; and please watch them on the stairs, the deck and around the fireplace! We can provide you with pack and play and stroller if required; please bring your own games and toys. Please also note the extra per person charge is not applicable to children under the age of 12.
The cabin is a fully self-contained house. Guests do not have access to the basement, which has a separate entry.
We don't live on the island, but we are available to guests via text, phone or email. For anything that might require in person assistance, we have local contacts available to help you!
Mayne Island does experience water shortages from time to time during the summer; please help out the neighbourhood and conserve water where possible!
Garbage and Recycling must be taken off the island with you after your stay or dropped at the garbage drop which is sometimes available near the ferry; we provide composting.
- Check in is after 3pm. Check out is noon but other times can also be accommodated.
- Please note that there is no smoking in the house or on the property.
- No pets, thank you!
- Our cabin is a "shoes-off" space, please remove your shoes while inside.
- Our cabin was carefully and lovingly built by our family, please be respectful and treat the building, its furnishings and property with care!
- The cabin is located in a rural area with nearby neighbours. Please respect their privacy and keep noise at a reasonable level, especially outdoor noise.
- Garbage and Recycling must be taken with you off the island, when you leave.
- There can be island-wide outdoor fire bans during dry summers; but when fires are permitted, please make sure ALL COALS are extinguished before leaving the fire pit unattended. There is a hose nearby to extinguish fires.
从2017年10月06日 - 2017年10月10日起最少住宿3晚。
We are both designers who love to cook, have dinner parties with friends and explore BC's beautiful west coast and all it has to offer. We call Vancouver home; when we're not riding our bikes on the seawall, travelling to our cabin on Mayne Island, or sailing in English Bay, we're probably renovating something or playing with our 2 year old, Orin.
We're clean, responsible, respectful and great travellers! We love meeting new people, having new cultural experiences, and tasting local flavours. We hope to share our coastal experiences with you, hosting or visiting!
