Situated on a very quiet fishing lake, this small cottage is less than 3 miles from beautiful Lake Michigan, 2 miles from Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore, 20 minutes from the charming small town of Frankfort, and just a few minutes from the popular Platte River.
This cottage is no longer my primary residence, but I am still nearby in Traverse City and will most likely be around during your stay. The guest room comes complete with two bunked twin-sized mattresses, just like college! Fresh sheets are supplied for every guest, of course.
Kayaks, fishing boat, lake frontage, refrigerator, cookware and usually some beer will all be available for use/consumption. The water in the lake is very clean, however the bottom is very mucky and not the most enjoyable to swim in. However, there are plenty of great beaches on Lake Michigan within 10-15 minutes of the cottage!
Over the past 18 years that we've had this cottage, I've had the opportunity to learn some of the best places off of the beaten path to show new friends.
Cons/ Things to note
No dishwasher or washing machine, it's all done the old fashioned way!
No garbage disposal either, please be conscious of what goes into the sink.
No cable or satellite TV.
Apple TV (Netflix, etc.) only.
No pets allowed, please.
The neighbors are midway through a construction project. The builders start pretty early on the weekdays, but the noise is receeding as they move onto the interior.
The lake out back (Little Platte) is good for fishing and filled with clean water, but the bottom is very mucky. Since it's also so shallow, I wouldn't recommend swimming here... But Lake Michigan is only 2.4 miles away!
Honor is a very small town, and the closest decent restaurants are about 20 minutes away. If you don't feel like traveling for every meal, plan to supply your own food for the trip. You're more than welcome to use my appliances, cookware and dishes!
It's definitely not the most up-to-date, but I'm putting a lot of work into fixing it up to be as charming as possible! I ask you to treat my home with respect, as I would yours.
I will supply a meal or two when I can and am around, but be prepared to bring your own food (you're welcome to use the appliances) or eat out at nearby restaurants.
Two guests max, no pets allowed.
