Straight Arrow is close to family-friendly activities. David Crocket State Park, TN, is one hour east and offers hiking and biking trails. Monte Sano State Park, AL, is located one hour south and offers hiking and biking trails. The Von Braun Space and Rocket Center is also one hour south in Huntsville. Nashville is one hour north. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
Straight Arrow is in a remote corner of Tennessee, although only 4.5 miles off of I-65, exit 6. It is isolated on a hill with a commanding view. On a county road with very little traffic, you will have quietness during the day and a full sky of stars at night. A Shower House is located within 100 feet with all of the amenities. The tipi has a fire pit inside for cooking, or there is another fire pit outside. There is no electricity or running water at the tipi. This is a serious getaway for lounging or traveling one hour north, south, east or west for hiking, biking or paddling.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO WIFI SERVICE AND YOUR CELL PHONE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE SERVICE!!!
This tipi is all one open space, 22 feet in diameter. It will easily sleep 4 people. One air mattress is in the tipi but you will need sleeping equipment for all other guests; i.e. foam pads, thermarests, sleeping bags, etc.
I will typically not be available in person to help during the stay. However I would be instantly available via phone for questions or problems. This is a camping experience so you should be comfortable in that type of environment.
As this is an authentic Indian tipi, there is no air conditioning or heating. A nice fan is available to keep the air moving and I have found it satisfactory during the summer.
I am a single professional Engineering Manager and consultant to the pharmaceutical industry. I built and live in my 3000 sq. ft. log home in Greenville, SC.
I am involved in a number of extracurricular activities around the country for pleasure. Biking, hiking, mountaineering, dog sled expeditins, adventure races, rock climbing, etc. I have traveled from Florida to Alaska to pursue all of these.
I live in a country setting with deer, turkey, bobcat and other wildlife. I may go 1000 mph during the day for work or play, but evenings are quiet and peaceful.
With this background and interests I have always wanted to build and live in an authentic Indian Tipi. Recently I was able to fulfill this dream in a remote and beautiful spot in south central Tennessee. To the extent possible I tried to follow Indian tradition in building and living in the tipi. Electricity and water is not available at the tipi but a Shower House is nearby that has all of the modern amenities.
I welcome you to Straight Arrow and to sharing with you some of the stories of my life as represented by the paintings on the tipi. I encourage you to embrace our Native American traditions and to stay, relax, inhale and touch your ancestors.
