Historical house furnished for the era - 1860 with books, music, light, ambiance.
The town of Mulgrave is located on the Strait of Canso which divides mainland Nova Scotia from Cape Breton Island. The Strait is famous for being the deepest, ice-free, salt water port in the world – an amazing feature of geography. Mulgrave is minutes from the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canso Causeway which connects the two stretches of land, making it the perfect “base camp” for touring the scenic Cabot Trail, whale-watching at Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay or golfing at the new Cabot Links in Inverness. On the way you can join in the foot-stomping and have a tasty meal at the Red Shoe Pub, owned by the Rankin Family in Mabou; you can walk barefoot in the sand at Port Hood beach, or check out the Celtic Music Interpretation Centre at Judique. If you’re headed in another direction along Marine Drive, the coastal route down the Eastern Shore of mainland Nova Scotia, the drive starts right out my front door and is well worth the trip. Mulgrave is close to the Shire town of Guysborough; it's on the way to Canso, famous for the Stan Rogers Festival, and countless picturesque fishing harbours all the way to Halifax.
As a guest in my home, "The Keating House", you will be made to feel as comfortable as possible. You will have your own clean fresh bedroom and use of a spotless bathroom. Guests tell me that they have the best sleeps here, maybe because all the linens have dried outside in the sun and wind, and the air wafting in the windows is fresh and salty. You are welcome to use the parlour, dining room, kitchen and verandah overlooking the water; free Wi-Fi; lovely walks around a safe, friendly town. I welcome writers and artists who are seeking an inspirational retreat experience or, if a girls get-away is in your schedule, this is the place to kick back and reconnect without interruptions.
Feel free to explore my gardens and help yourself to flowers and vegetables if you wish. Add to all that a beautiful sunrise over Cape Breton and you may not want to leave!
If you are arriving in the evening please try to have dinner somewhere along the way because there is nowhere in Mulgrave to eat. The nearest restaurants are 6-15 km away. If you really can't bear the thought of getting back in the car I will rustle up something for you to eat for $20 per guest. Please plan to arrive before 9:00 pm; I go to bed early. Thank you.
In recognition of people who have environmental sensitivities, I clean only with natural products and do not use cheap or highly perfumed laundry soap. Respectfully I ask that guests avoid using perfumes and other scented products while visiting as I am highly sensitive to chemical scents.
I have lived in other parts of the world for much of my life. I love to travel and experience different cultures, which is why I enjoy hosting Airbnb guests.
I look forward to meeting you and offering suggestions to help make your trip fun!

I am available to help you plan your route around Cape Breton, where to eat, what to see, history. If you like to socialize, I am happy to do so. However, if you prefer to be alone to read, sleep, do yoga, eat, then just let me know and I will make myself scarce. If you need help with anything, I will do my utmost to accommodate your questions or needs.
