17 Palms Kauai is one block to the beach, live music, shops, many restaurants, grocery stores, farmers' markets, the airport (10 min), parks and public transport. We were named by Conde Nast Traveler Mag. as "one of the 20 perfect places to stay in Hawaii" and top-5 on Kauai. Step back to a slower pace, away from crowded resorts, into our secret slice of paradise. We've been consistently rated the #1 or #2 property on Trip Advisor for over 5 years in a row, thanks to 300+ reviews.
Hale Iki Cottage can accommodate up to two adults (2) sharing a queen bed (which is very comfortable), plus one small infant that still sleeps in a playpen/crib (that we provide) along with other great child friendly items (e.g. plug covers, booster chair, etc.). We do not allow any other sleeping arrangements in the cottage, so no sleeping bags, cot, or sleeping on furniture is allowed. This is a strict policy and we only allow sleeping as described and only on the sleeping accommodations we provide. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
TAXES: As a licensed operator, we are obligated to collect 13.4166% in taxes (General Excise Tax of 4.166% and Transient Accommodations Tax of 9.25%). These taxes will be calculated on the total fees (nightly rate plus cleaning fee) UPON BOOKING and will be collected via AirBnB's resolution tool. 100% of these taxes are remitted to the State of Hawaii every month.
A/C. While we have noted this for the cottage, please be aware that this is only in the bedroom. We do not have central A/C. However, many people who have not stayed in a full home in a tropical environment, are not aware of how great it is to have windows on all four sides of the house along with ceiling fans and the natural trade winds which provide an incredibly pleasant, open-air experience. Unlike a hotel/condo which typically do not have any cross ventilation and only one entry door and balcony, they must have central A/C to provide a livable environment. If you are concerned about this, 17 Palms Kauai may not be for you.
THIS IS A NON-SMOKING AND NO SHOES HOUSE: Please respect this requirement or an additional cleaning fee may be charged.
CHECK-IN: is at 3:00 P.M. and Check-Out is at 10:00 A.M. This gives our cleaning staff a bare minimum of time to prepare the cottage for the next guests, most of who will arrive by 3:00 p.m. that same day, tired from traveling and anxious to get moved in and relax.
LATE CHECK OUT: Late Check-Outs are available upon availability at 50% of the daily rate, plus taxes. You will have access to the cottage and property until the time you leave for the airport on your departure day. This is recommended for late night or red-eye flights
TELEPHONE: There is a landline and telephone/ answering machine in the cottage. Local calls are free. Any other calls must be made by other means (e.g. cell phone, facetime).
AMENITIES: ALL amenities are included free (there are no additional charges beyond those outlined above). Please see our cottage descriptions for amenity details.
EXTENDED STAYS: Stays of 14 days or more will incur an interim-clean fee of $50, and for each additional period of 14 days thereafter. We will clean, change out linens, towels, etc. and refresh all cottage stock of cleaning supplies (TP, PT, bath items, kitchen items, etc.).
All rates are subject to change without notice
We make every effort to ensure that all equipment is in working order and that the surrounding environment is as pleasing as possible. In the event of an equipment breakdown, we will strive to repair it as soon as possible after being notified of a problem. We cannot guarantee that televisions, appliances, etc. will not break down during your stay (especially with the unrelenting salt air) and therefore, no refunds or adjustments can be made for mechanical failure. We cannot take responsibility for any other unexpected situations beyond our control such as power outages, insects, roosters, weather, nearby construction and the like.
I live on the amazing island of Kauai with my husband and business partner, Jeff, and we are very lucky to be able to share our beautiful property, 17 Palms Kauai with guests from all over the world. We are both very involved in the island community, working in such areas as real estate, non-profit management, volunteering, theater and entertainment, and have lived here for over 12 years.
There are also many opportunities for numerous athletic events such as triathlons, the Kauai marathon (I've run the 1/2 every year - pretty fun, and did the full in 2016; it was hard), the annual Hanalei open swim, the Ha`ena run/walk, Paradise Ride Kauai and the Peddle to the Meadow event, and many more. I do quite a few of these and enjoy being outdoors with friends and friendly fellow competitors.
We have owned and run our property the entire time, having been lucky enough to stay in one of our cottages on a house-hunting trip back in 2004. Come and enjoy what we get to see every day and experience what we believe is one of the most beautiful places on earth and stay in one of the most highly-rated and unique properties, 17 Palms Kauai!
We love this place, although we love to travel, and always look forward to coming "home". There is nothing like the incredible air and trade winds that make things so unique. We have a 12-month growing cycle and you'll find lots of locally available fruits and vegetables, fish, local grass fed meats, and an abundance of good restaurants. We love to eat well, and to share the bounty of the island with our guests.
