My place is ideal for family-friendly activities. It's situated in between the historic towns of Braga and Guimarães, and the nearest village is Longos which has a few bakeries, a supermarket and several restaurants. You’ll love my place because of the view, the walks behind the house, the abundance of beautiful places to visit all around us. My home is good for couples and families (with kids). Caldelas das Taipas, 4kms away, has a spa, parks and many cafés and restaurants.
A restored farmhouse, in the middle of the countryside but near Braga and Guimarães. The family live at the property and rent out the whole of the ground floor as a separate apartment. The apartment is large, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a spacious sitting room and a modern kitchen.
The outside area is leafy and has wonderful views over the mountains. The house is set in the middle of a vineyard, with the family making red and white wine - which guests are welcome to enjoy.
Fruit trees abound and again, guests can eat whatever is in season.
The family have a cat and dog, who are part of the family.
There are walks behind the house to get to Sameiro and Bom Jesus.
The apartment is well equipped, a real home from home, down to the provision of dishwasher tablets and washing powder.
The sitting room was the original part of the house and is of stone - with double doors opening onto a wisteria covered patio area, situated next to the BBQ.
There is satellite TV and a DVD player. Free Wifi. New orthopaedic mattresses for the 2 double bedrooms and a new kitchen island with an induction hob.
All the bedrooms are large and beautifully decorated, with individual touches throughout.
The farmhouse is in the country but only 15 minutes from Braga and Guimarães. There are restaurants serving typical Portuguese gastronomy, 5 minutes from the house. Lots to see and do in the area - Bom Jesus/Sameiro, the Citânia Celtic settlement, the spa towns of Taipas, Vizela and Gerês.
Thre is so much to see and do in the area that most people come back!
Guests have the whole ground floor, a patio area outside the sitting room, tables and chairs along the front of the house.
They have a games room with a table tennis table.
They are very welcome to get involved in the grape harvest (usually) at the end of September. They are free to wander around the farm, eat the fruit and, if the hens are laying, they are welcome to eggs.
There are gardens to the front and side - again, open to all.
I will indeed be here to offer help, make suggestions, give directions to get to places of interest. I have recently bought a 4x4 and often take guests up the mountain (if they would like) to see the lights of Braga from the church and gardens of Sameiro, studded with statues of the ancient bishops of Braga - ideally at dusk.
There is great interaction with guests as the family live at the farmhouse (with their private entrance at the back of the house).
Many guests become life-long friends!
We have a cat, Golden Retriever dog, geese, ducks, chickens, goldfish etc. This is the ideal holiday for people who want to be in the country but near civilization - the towns of Longos (2 mins away), Taipas (5 mins away), Braga (15 mins away), Guimarães (20 mins away).
The drive up to the house is quite steep but the road surface is good and there is little traffic.
There are several restaurants (all reasonably priced) in the neighbourhood - one is within walking distance.
Behind the house there are nice walks through the forest and it's only a 30 minute walk to get to Sameiro/Bom Jesus.
- No loud music after 11pm as we have 3 children who need their sleep.
- You'll need a car to get here.
- We live 15 minutes from Braga, but it's a steep climb near the end.
- Smoking is ok outside (as long as you use an ash tray)
- We don't mind friends coming to visit you here but not wild parties going on into the night!
Married, with 3 children. Love being outside, food, wine, going to the cinema/theatre/concerts.
I like travelling and have been all over.
I read a lot, watch TV, go to the café.
I go to aqua aerobics on a regular basis, walk a fair bit and like to cycle.
My motto is: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
