Smikey was extremely communicative and very helpful and amenable prior to arrival. When we arrived at the cottage, Smickey's brother Desmond was there to help us settle in. He regularly checked throughout the stay if everything was OK.
The location is very good. Right on the beach at Cape Maclear, between Mgozi and Gecko's. Beautiful views to the islands. It's not a particularly remote location though, as many villagers walk past the side fence of the house to the lake where they wash their clothes and dishes, and bathe. This is common throughout the lakeshore at Cape Maclear, but it feels quite close at Nyanga cottage.
When we stayed there the house was pretty new - I think we were the first guests. Smickey said he is working on getting a cooker for the kitchen, and furniture (other than beds) for the bedrooms - both of which are needed and will be good additions. The kitchen equipment is a bit light on in terms of common items like wine glasses, vegetable peelers, sharp knives, but I'm sure this will be boosted as well over time. There's a new bar fridge that works well.
I would advise those with a small infant or toddlers to consider their needs, as there is a very steep and short staircase leading to the second floor.
