Ilan was great. This is a standard apartment in a not-brand-new but nonetheless well-maintained and well-landscaped slightly older building in a lovely neighborhood of Ness Ziona. It is within walking distance to parks, shopping centers, and intercity bus stops. A couple of train stations are also not too far away. It is now possible to buy a daily public transportation pass that is valid on all operators. Ness Ziona is right outside the central Gush Dan (Dan Region), so if you walk about 30 minutes to the first Rishon Lezion bus stop or the Rishonim train station, you can save a few shekels. I got an expanded Gush Dan (Dan Region) pass that includes Ness Ziona (and as far north as Herzliya, Ra'anana, and Kfar Saba). Another day, I got a pass that includes the expanded Gush Dan and the Asheklon area, which also includes Ashdod.
