i was very sad to read this review from jay.
a few days after Jays stay... i received an email from jay requesting that i give him a partial refund before they submitted their review to air b n b.. i felt like a pawn. i told them no refund . they then wrote their review .
. their review is false.
my cleaning crew comes twice a week.... i come every friday to check up on things.. due to scheduling of guests... leaving and arriving on the same day with the cleaning crew coming in between... nothing stays too long in the fridge... no chance for rotting (URL HIDDEN) entrance doors are screen doors .. no (URL HIDDEN) photos are accurate.. they were taken by a sony digital point and shoot camera or my phone camera... no photoshopping...
here are the details of why their claims are false... and are just mean...
i have used the same cleaning crew for over 15 years... they are thorough, efficient, responsible, reliable ... and most importantly they show up ... in a beach community showing up is the tough part..this is due to the logistics of getting on and off the island.
. finding anyone to work in a beach community is very hard.. plumbers repairmen ... cleaning crews. etc .
the logistics of getting on and off the island effect services on the island. things do not always happen as fast as you want them to. ..i am prepared for this.. extra propane etc...
cleaning crews in beach communities can pick and choose who they work for... they are in demand, and most crews are not responsible, nor reliable.
my cleaning crew is very responsible, and very reliable. they chose to work with me.
.i pay them well, and i pay them on time. and in advance.
our home is in fair harbor. a town that is on fire island.. fire island is a barrier island... during july and august.. there are no cars.... the only ways on and off the island are by ferry, or by riding a bike 2 plus miles to robert moses park to the field 5 parking lot... this is daily parking.. and the lot closes at dusk.. there are no cars allowed on the island during these months.
if one has a boat they can get to fair harbor and dock near the shore and wade through the water to the shore...
the logistics of getting to and from fair harbor are a challenge for the work force that are the back bone of fair harbor and make it function.
the ferries run approximately every 1.5 hours sometimes longer... arriving and departing ferries do not always line up... i.e. a ferry leaving fair harbor at 1 and arriving in bayshore at 1;30 .. may not have a return trip to fair harbor until 4 pm... logistics are tough... after a work crew leaves the (URL HIDDEN) is very difficult and nearly impossible to get them to return the same day..
here is the timeline relating to anything that could have affected jays stay in our house.
i was in the house the weekend of august 12... we departed monday morning august 15. we emptied the fridge of the food we had cooked.. we left some eggs, seltzer..butter is a staple.and is supplied.. we left some cereal boxes on top of the fridge, olive oil, balsamic oil
there are always condiments in the (URL HIDDEN) squeeze bottles to avoid double dippings.... ketchup mustard, salad dressings, mayonaisie etc... the house is user friendly and geared for families. and as part of the communal arrangement of sharing my house.. i supply these and some visiting guests also get in the sharing spirit and also leave some of their supplies.
a family of 7 arrived monday morning august 15 and departed before noon on friday august 19
i go to the house on fridays after the midweek guests leave and before the weekend guests arrive.... i do this to check on things in the house.
on friday august 19 .. i arrived at the house at 12 noon... this was after the group of 7 had departed.. . the cleaning crew was cleaning and doing their thing...
as with any home.. things move... people like things their way..some like a dish towel on the fridge door handle.. some like it on the stove handle.. etc. the family of 7 had put a plastic table cloth on the picnic table ... we never had a table cloth on the picnic table ... but it was colorful and clean.. so i left it on the picnic table.
upon their departure, the family of 7 had left the fridge almost empty, except for a few condiments... some seltzer.... it was a very bare fridge.. the eggs were gone, the cereal was gone... some guests do not get into the sharing and communal spirit.. and they just take as much as possible.. these were some of those kind of guests
the weekend guests were a family of 4 that arrived after 3 pm..on friday afternoon august 19... they departed either sunday night august 21 or 9 am monday morning august 22.
i have our home cleaned after every group that leaves..which means they arrive before every group that arrives...all laundry cleaning is done within an hour or 2 before the next guests are due to arrive.
my cleaning crew arrived around 9 am monday august 22 a few hours before jay was to arrive.
jay arrived late morning or early afternoon. of monday august 22.... some time after they arrived he called me... saying there were candy wrappers under the mattress, the fridge had rotten food etc.. i contacted my cleaning crew immediately.. ...they came back to the house that day as soon as they could... as previously mentioned.... logistics of ferry schedules and biking off island ... make coming back a logistic nightmare/ challenge.
the cleaning crew came back that day....we have been with each other over 15 years... they are very responsible and reliable, i pay them well and on time.
i care about my guests .. all of my mattresses and box springs are covered by special zippered mattress protectors to prevent mites, allergens, bedbugs... aller zip . protect a bed. zippered mattress protectors... very effective. when jay was looking under mattresses for something, or making the bed... he found candy food from the prior family.. possibly a secret eater... ( i later notified the prior family.. of this... possibly the early sign of an eating disorder .. they were happy to get this news so they could handle the secret eating issue with their kids.)
i immediately called the cleaning crew. and told them of jays complaints and concerns. upon their arrival...without questioning jay ...the crew did anything and everything that jay requested. regardless if it was needed.. they know that the guests comes first. they stayed till very late. later ..i paid them again with a bonus.
jay told them what they wanted done... ... jay chose to stay and supervise. .. my cleaning crew went above and beyond ...just by coming back... they showed their loyalty to the customer and the willingness to please.
when my city cleaners clean .. i tell them what to do.. and i go about my business... once they leave... i know the earliest i can get them back is possibly the next day...
my front door and kitchen ( back) door are both screen doors.. there is no (URL HIDDEN) have the gaping holes .. as jay speaks of.. these are the only doors into and out of the house.
on the lower part of the screen.. i have a plastic protector ... to prevent the screen from ripping... in the past, some guests would push the screen, not the metal door frame , to open the door. ripping the screen...... in the years before i implemented the plastic screen protector..i would need to repair the screen 2 times a week..
since i started implementing the screen protectors... the screens stay intact...
once again .. due to the logistics and the work force work load on the island..... getting something done when you need it is very tough.. i plan ahead. so as not to put my guests in a bad situation... getting a screen fixed quickly is tough, getting a replacement propane immediately... not happening.. i always have extra propane... i take care of my guests...
i am a fanatic about my screens being intact.. i do not like mosquitoes, or buggies. of any kind...... and with the new zika issue.. i am even more attentive and pro active.
on the sunny day jay and his family (URL HIDDEN) they approached the front door of the house.. they may not have seen that the front door was a screen door as is the back kitchen door.. but during jays 5 days in the house . jay and his family knew the doors were screen doors , there was no glass to have a gaping hole. . these are the only 2 doors into and out of the house .its not nice of jay to make up the story that my doors have broken glass.
if there was food in the fridge when jay arrived it was from the prior weekend family of 4 . that left either a few hours before jay arrived or 12 hours before jay arrived... there was no time to have rotting food. as jay speaks. not nice of jay to say there was rotting food.
every guest that stays in our house receives a 15 page house primer and tell all.. answering questions such as .locations of silverware.. house protocols such as .. emptying of the fridge before they leave, cleaning out dryer lint etc.. every topic is covered... jay received the primer. a few days before his arrival
all the guests prior to jay and after jay... including my family..... starting from may and ending labor day.. No one complained or spoke of any of these issues that Jay spoke of.in his review.. . no mention of a leaky shower doors , toilet issue . etc. even .the prior weekend family had no problem with the toilet, shower door... none of what jay speaks of. the guests afte jay left said nothing of the issues jay mentions in his review.
also .. i have no rusted deck furniture. and pillows are changed every summer or more frequently . if needed i have extra new pillows in the closet. .
during jay and his family vacation .. they also did not speak of problems with the toilet, or shower door,,, no mention of puddles on the table cloth on the picnic table... after that first call. . no other mention was made by jay of any issues they were having.. no spagetiic on forks no chicken carcas in the oven... not a peep. not a call, email or text... nothing else was mentioned by jay during his stay of any issues he had with our house that he is now mentioning in his review..
i returned to our house at noon .of the same day that jay left. jay left before noon of august 26... . the colorful and clean plastic table cloth was still on the picnic table. during his stay... the plastic table cloth was not an issue to jay ... only now in his review is it an issue..
jay had left the upstairs ac on, the deck lights and front door light were on .. all house fans.. on... i did not know if they were on from friday morning of the day jay was leaving , or from the night before, or all week...there was also a hole in a window screen facing the deck with a chess piece sticking out... a pawn. very poetic..
i did not mention any of these to jay. i did not charge him for it.. i understand that things may happen... and people sometimes forget to turn things off. i patched the hole in the screen.. done done.
if there were any slightly damp towels or sheets they were from that mornings laundry .. any slightly damp towels drying on the deck chairs would be from that monday mornings laundry of the day that jay arrived.
for the month of august either i used the house or guests used the house .. midweek, and weekends. all back to back... there was no open time... the cleaning crew comes before and after every guest. twice a week.. the entire house is cleaned including the fridge, floors, floor mats, laundry done, deck cleaned .. everything cleaned, and washed twice a week
the cleaning crew came at 9 am monday morning... 2 hours hours before jay arrive was to arrive at 11 am.... every departing group cleans out the
fridge of anything they cooked , if they are generous they may leave packaged foods and other closed foods for the next group to use.. as part of the air b
.. communal family spirit.
in my house primer that is given to every guest before they arrive i repeatedly ask that they tell me of anything broken or ripped. or any issue that may effect their stay.. ... i understand things break,, rip, a bike tire may get a flat... things happen i understand... i do not charge the guest for these minor damages.
. i do ask that they report any issue to me as soon as possible.
no one had or has mentioned any of the issues that jay put in his review. during jays stay ... jay did not mention any of these things...that he put in his review.
this is a house.. surrounded by nature.. trees etc... the cleaning crew cleans all ceiling wall corners etc for any spider webs. inside the house and outside the house... i cannot control nature... of course spiders are part of the eco system and do catch mosquitoes and other flying things that are bothersome to us humans...
i wish my city cleaning crew was as responsive and effective and thorough as the crew i have cleaning this beach house.
i have the house equipped for most all a family would need for a summer at the beach, beach chairs, umbrellas, linens, beach towels . games, bikes, two weber grills.. extra propane.. kitchen items. etc... for a stress free vacation.. quests have to bring themselves their stuff... and a bathing suit .. the heavy lifting so to speak, chairs umbrellas bikes games . condiments, olive oil, butter . .. etc are supplied by me..
a few days after they left...jay contacted me saying they would wait to write a review... but they wanted some money refunded before they did so. i told them no refund..... they then wrote this false review.
i do all i can to make a guests stay enjoyable and equip the house for comfort and a stress free time. it is very upsetting to me that jay would write such a false and mean review...
