I felt my stay safe knowing i was half a block from the US embassy. The apartment is the perfect location from restaurants, bars, park, zoo and church if you need it, etc. Car park. You may have to figure out the laundry part, but that is not a major problem. Also, keep in mind it is someone's home..
Overall quality: It may not be the newest place around, but for Port of Spain, it's very good quality. Some minor issues to be expected with an old building. Safety: Very safe area of Port of Spain. Didn't feel unsafe at all. This is mostly a business area, so during the day you'll see a lot of office workers. You'll see a homeless guy or two nearby, but they generally keep to themselves. Location: Very close to everything. Most places are within walking distance - the Savannah, the zoo, the botanic gardens, the national museum, and even the strip (Ariapita ave.), Woodford Square, and a supermarket (Massy). Not to mention fresh coconut vendors, doubles vendors, and Rituals coffee house. Misc: Even though you get the whole place to yourself, it is an Airbnb, so don't be surprised to find someone else's stuff I'm the apartment. It is mostly hidden away, though. The host: The host was great! Abigail even helped arrange Airport pickup and check in late at night (I didn't fly in until 11 pm).
Abigails place was great, I came with my friend and I, and we were picked up from the airport by her driver. (The first driver was stuck in traffic and she was able to get us another driver before we even got through customs). Abigail was always available to help us out and organize rides for us (much easier and informative than using a taxi in my opinion) - Ended up becoming great friends with one of the drivers actually - Feel free to reach out to me if any questions. The apartment was clean, and was what it was shown to be in the pictures - working tv, bath, kitchen, everything was up to par if not more.
Abigail and the apartment were a great welcome to Trinidad. Abigail went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. The location of the apartment is perfect for attending any events and is very clean and spacious. If you will be in Trinidad definitely spend at least a few days here.
I stayed in this apartment for approximately ten weeks in late 2016. I am female and was living alone in the apartment while in T&T for work. I would highly recommend this apartment to people who will be booking for short stays. The apartment is located within walking distance of the Savannah (exercise, scenery), Maraval Road and Cipriani Blvd (restaurants), Massy on French Street (groceries), Ariapita Ave (evening entertainment). I was able to walk downtown in about 20 minutes for meetings. The apartment is also located within walking distance to a number of embassies and international organizations if that's part of your travel. I found the apartment to be very well secured. The complex is gated and the exterior door and windows of the apartment have bars on them. The metal security gate on the front door requires a heavy padlock, so I recommend you bring a lock for that extra level of safety. Otherwise, there are three locks on the front door for added security. The apartment is less than a half a block from the guard shack of the US embassy, which keeps the street safe. You'll see people out playing in the Savannah until after dark too, so the area is well populated. Be aware that the accommodations are quite basic. The apartment could use some general upgrades such as new carpeting, furniture, cabinets and paint. But the bathroom and kitchen are in desperate need of attention. The plumbing in the shower underwent some heavy repairs while I was there. When I checked out in early January 2016, the white tiles in the shower were busted up and haphazardly cemented over with dark grey cement. The plumber was not careful and sloshed cement on the walls. It's a bit of a mess. As for the kitchen, a large section of the countertop is peeling up and the construction of the utensils draw is a hazard. Pretty much all the kitchen appliances have some element on them that is broken (e.g. the microwave's turntable doesn't turn, the pieces to the coffee pot must be stacked up just right to use it). All of the appliances still function, though. The host mentioned she may be doing some upgrades in the near future, so you might want to ask about that before booking if you're less attracted to bachelor-pad living. There are three well-functioning air conditioners in the apartment, the TV is great for watching the many cable channels on offer and the wifi is very dependable. If the unmarked DVDs are still in the apartment when you arrive, do keep them away from the kids. There are some surprises in there. I wouldn't recommend this apartment for extended stays, nor for people who are in T&T to work during the day. Noise is a major issue in the apartment. Examples range from partying to car alarms to revving motorcyle engines to a loud truck (garbage truck?) that passes through each Monday and Tuesday morning at 3am on the dot....
