We welcome travellers curious about East London. We can offer a beautiful retreat from the intense city experience. We like couples, with or without kids, and solo travellers, but no party people.
In the summer we tend to go away for a minimum of six weeks and always aim to rent out the house for the whole time, ideally with one set of guests!
We are mostly away on UK school holidays, but always open to requests for weekend lettings, so do ask, even if it's blocked in the calendar.
This is a small but amazing house in a very quite set up. It is in a carefully designed low density modernist estate that is loved and cared for by it's inhabitants. If you need a break from the Victorian terraces, ours is the place to go. (It appears in the book: 'Modernist Estates', a bit of a hipster guide to modernist estates in London)
Most of the estate is car free, so a perfect and safe for kids to play outside. It is like an oasis in the noise of the vibrant city.
There is a small, shared, gated courtyard in front of the house and a leafy, spacious private garden at the back. The backdrop to the garden is the glorious Victoria Park.
I am an architect and I re-designed the interior of the house. It is very bright, light and modern.
The downstairs is open plan, with beautiful original parquet and 20th century furniture (Eames chairs, Ercol table etc). The small, but functional, bright and colourful kitchen is visually tucked away, it faces the courtyard, where kids can play in your sight. The living and dining area face the garden.
There is a huge glazed sliding door opening up the living space to the garden. The scents form the garden waft into the house in the summer.
Upstairs there are two larger and one small bedroom. The small bedroom is like a sleeping landscape. It is really one big mattress, with a calming view into the tree tops. One kids bedroom with full length double bunk beds and another room with a double sofa bed. All wooden floors, no dust, no stuffiness.
We live in the house, so we would most likely be away when you arrive.
Still, access to the keys would be 24 hours.
We have lovely neighbours and friends round the corner if anything might come up. We will also be available remotely of necessary.
I will leave a list with the best cafes and restaurants and activities around, there is an abundance of everything you might dream of, unless it's the seaside and reliable weather conditions...
We love our home, so we would like to host people that respect our space. We have small kids, so toys would be available, but again, we like it all to be treated respectfully.
We are a bilingual family, there are german and english (children's) books.
Also, very important to us: Please NO shoes in the house!
- Treat the place with respect, we love it as it is.
- It is a quite neighbourhood, so no party guests!
- No shoes in the house.
