Our home is located on a quiet street just two-minutes from the North Laines, four minutes from the train station, and on the doorstep of a number of independent cafes, art galleries, and parks. The open-plan layout is ideal as a family hangout and socialising space.
The living spaces are on the first and second floors, with Juliet balconies on both levels, so it is a bright and airy space where we grow lots of interesting plants and enjoy socialising with friends. The two bedrooms have black-out blinds and King size duvets, so we are sure you will sleep comfortably! On the ground floor, there is a utility room, small courtyard garden, and a music room from which Sam teaches piano and I practice flute, but I'm afraid this room is not for guests use.
The main entrance from the street is shared with our neighbours, but once in the house, you're in a very quiet space with two bedrooms and a lovely sofa bed in the lounge (memory foam here, no springs!). The music room on the ground floor is out of bounds, but other than that, you have the whole house to yourselves! We will leave two sets of keys and are able to leave keys in a safe on the front of the house if you're arriving late.
You will probably meet us if you arrive in the afternoon/early evening as we usually try to be around to welcome guests and give a quick show-around. If you are staying during the week you may notice Sam accessing the music room to teach or practice periodically, but he is self-contained and won't need access to the rest of the house, so other than that you will most likely be undisturbed during your stay.
We have a very friendly cat called Grammar... He usually has at least 3 pouches/tins of food a day as well as dry food, which we will leave out for you.
The cat flap must be set to open at all times, and the internal doors between the cat flap and the kitchen must be open to allow him to access his food in the kitchen.
Please make us aware how many people will be staying at the time of booking. Extra guests are not permitted.
Guests are not permitted to use the music room.
Our door key is coded and must be cut by a specialist - if you lose a set of keys, please inform us as soon as possible. There is a £50 charge if keys are not returned at the time of check-out.
We are a musical and outdoorsy Brighton-based couple - Sam is a piano teacher and composer, and I (Chris) am a trainee joiner.
We enjoy the performing arts, vegetarian cooking, camping, climbing, swimming, and growing things - you'll find our house full of interesting plants, inside and out! We also have a very sociable cat, Grammar, who comes and goes as he pleases - mostly he hangs out on the roofs around our house and also visits our neighbours!
Our home is a semi-detached three-storey, two bed property - it has a toilet/utility room and music room on the ground floor (though the music room is not for common use), a spacious open plan lounge/dining room/kitchen on the first, and two double bedrooms and large bathroom on the second floor. Outside, we have a small courtyard garden with lots growing - our urban oasis! There is a car park directly opposite the house and another at the end of the street, where you will also find a car hire company, so mobilising yourself and parking once you are here is very easy! There is also feee street parking a short walk from the house.
The house can comfortably accommodate 6 people (2 in each bedroom and 2 in the lounge on our fold out sofa-bed). We are more than happy to introduce you to some of what Brighton has to offer if that's what you're after, or if we are away, you will find all the house info and some local knowledge in our handbook.
We have used air bnb a number of times as guests and had great experiences staying in quirky homes and meeting friendly local hosts, which made us want to start sharing our own place. We have many unfulfilled travel plans for Europe, East Asia, South America, Africa... lots left to explore! But Brighton is a great welcoming and vibrant place to come back to!
