In all the three years we have been renting out our home, we never had one of these complaints. Airbnb confirmed this and apologized for the situation and let us know that they feel not the same as Alba and her company. Stil we feel like we need to reply to this: We had prepared the house as usual wen we rent out our home at airbnb, cleaned and tide up the whole place, informed them about the house and how to get there in advance, we left them a bottle of wine as a welcoming gesture and we had provided them with maps and tips to do in Amsterdam. When they arrived we did not hear anything from them, but we heard from our neighbours that they were not happy. We tried to reach them but they did not reply. Then two hours later we received a phonecall from airbnb; they felt uncomfartable in our house and wanted to leave. I immediatley went there to talk with them, interuptting our dinner with friends. When I got there they said that the house smelled weird; since we had cleaned the whole place, used clean sheets and removed the garbage bin, the only thing they might have smelled and disliked is the personal smell of our house. We can't really do anything about that. They also were arguing that there was no room for their luggage. This also seemed strange to us, since we always empty our closet to provide space for the guests. They also argued that the stuff in the house is old and that we should renovate the place. Well, this is our personal choice, to furniture the house with recycled furniture and this choice is represented on the photos of the house on airbnb. There is nothing different on the photos then what you get. So if you do not feel comfortable with old furniture we do not understand why you book a place like ours. They also complaint about our personal stuff in the house, when Bas explained that we lived here and that in Amsterdam you can only rent out your house if you actually live there yourself they responded with incomprehension. We had the feeling that they expected a hotel, with no personal traces. This is not what we offer, and this is clear from our photos. Therefore we do absolutely not understand why they have picked our apartment (which is clearly not like a hotel; visible on the pictures) and could not work with their complaint “not to feel comfortable in the house”, as we tried our best to make everything comfortable for them. They have cancelled the reservation and payed the cancelation arrangements (half restitution), on which they did not agree. A very unfortunate experience!
