Surrounded by views on one side and a garden oasis on the other, this is truly a unique property close to the hustle and bustle of Capitol Hill. Enjoy a private bed & bath on the lower floor of our hillside single family home with shared kitchen.
Enjoy a private bedroom and bathroom in our home, nestled between the Howe and Blaine stairs on the quiet north end of Capitol Hill. While we're both well-traveled, we take great pride in our beloved native state and are happy to help you find the best spots and experiences in the city and surrounding mountains and Puget Sound. We're in a great location for public transit (served by Link light rail, Metro 49 & 70-series) from Sea-Tac airport and Washington State Ferries, and offer a reserved parking spot (upon request) and plenty of free on-street parking. There is easy access to and from I-5 and a Car2Go is almost always within walking distance.
Your private room and bathroom are on the ground level of our early 20th century house, which is perched on the northwest slope of Capitol Hill, with sweeping views to the west. The bedroom includes a queen bed, plus an additional queen hide-a-bed couch and has private entry through the basement or shared kitchen. Linens are provided, and we have most necessities on hand in case you forget anything. Our sweet, older dog will gladly greet you, but is also happy to keep to herself when needed. The back door off our sunny shared kitchen and breakfast nook opens up to a private garden, sitting area, and BBQ patio, but you'll likely want to spend your time on the front deck overlooking Lake Union, the downtown skyline, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains. In addition, we're right next to one of the best kept secrets of Seattle's park system, Streissguth Gardens, which is a woodland garden with walking paths, specimen plants and striking views.
When you're ready to venture out from the quiet garden retreat, we're an easy walk to the cultural heart of Capitol Hill, with some of the best dining, nightlife, and of course, coffee, in the city. Just up the hill is historic Volunteer Park, designed by the Olmstead Brothers, which includes a botanical conservatory, Seattle Asian Art Museum, 1906 brick water tower with 360 degree views, and Lake View Cemetery, where Chief Sealth, many of Seattle's founders, and Bruce Lee are all buried. The Eastlake neighborhood, home to Seattle's famous house boat community, is a short walk down the Howe or Blaine stairs, and downtown, South Lake Union, Wallingford, Fremont, University District, Montlake, Madison Park, and Central District are all within minutes by car or public transport.
While respecting your privacy, we're happy to share tips about our beautiful city over a cup of true Seattle coffee and are happy to be your home away from home. Come enjoy a retreat in the city!
This is a smoke-free household. We are child friendly and have a 4-yo that loves guests!
We often get a chance to chat in the shared kitchen and breakfast nook. If you prefer privacy, we do keep the sliding door to the stairs closed most of the time. Our pup, Zari, loves to visit if you want to invite her down.
Access to our home is by stairs only, and guests should be comfortable walking up approximately 30 stairs to their entrance. Pricing is based on 1-2 guests + children and cleaning fee is waived if you leave our home as clean as you found it. Additional adult guests (up to 2) are $10/ night/ person extra. Free car parking in our carport by request and there is free parking in our neighborhood with no time limit.
We are happy to share the kitchen, breakfast nook, deck, and surrounding landscape with our guests. As we have a 4-yo and dog in the house, we keep our living area upstairs separate- let us know if you'd like to visit with our dog as she loves guests. There is room for gear storage in the basement.
If you're doing a large dinner, etc. we can make the large living room and dining room available by request and for a fee.
