Our cottage fronts one of the best spots on the Kalamazoo River, it's a close walk to the chain ferry, the stairs at Mt Baldhead Park, Oval Beach and Ox-Bow Summer Art School. You will love sitting on the patio at the top of the riverbank or on the front deck and watching the boats in the channel. There is always something to see and the location allows you to walk to everything that Saugatuck offers, yet it's just far enough away from the traffic and activities to offer a relaxing vacation.
Brand new to the vacation rental market this season!!! The cottage was built in the early 1920's then remodeled and expanded in the mid 1960's. We bought the place last year and completely renovated and restored just about everything. It's a very peaceful and relaxing space, just perfect for a get away. Just behind the cottage are several large sand dunes and beyond that is Oval Beach. It's a quick bike ride or only a 10 minute walk through the dunes to the beach on the abandoned road that used to lead out to a lumber mill in the late 1800's. We love to hike the Old Fishtown Trail and loop back along the trail that overlooks the Ox-Bow Lagoon. You will love taking the old Chain Ferry into downtown Saugatuck or climbing the stairs to the top of Mt Baldhead. During the summer, on every other Friday evening Ox-Bow Art School hosts an Open Studio Night and auction, it is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage and not to be missed.
You will have access to the entire cottage including the garage. There is a second unfinished cottage in the rear of the property that is not ready for this season but will be added for next year.
We live right here in town on the other side of the river. I'm usually available very quickly in case you need help with anything. I'm also a Realtor and can help with a home search if you have an interest in buying a property in the area.
The cottage is old and has old drain lines that have been accumulating sand. Please use the hose to remove sand prior to using the shower. Please shake the sand out of the beach towels outside prior to washing them. If you do laundry you may notice water backing up in the shower because the discharge is more water than the narrow floor drain lines can quickly handle. The shower, laundry tub and laundry discharge are on the same drain line and the water back up is not sewage.
I can arrange to have the cottage stocked with basic groceries or anything else you may want prior to your arrival.
PLEASE NOTE: Pets will not be allowed after this summers rentals, I will honor allowing a pet to those who have already booked for this year. PET RULE: Only one dog is allowed with advanced notice. If a pet joins you at the cottage there will be an additional cleaning fee of $75 and the security deposit will be increased an additional $100. You MUST clean up after your pet or you will forfeit your deposit. If you bring more than one dog or don't make advanced arrangements with me regarding your pet you will be asked to leave for violating house rules, there are no exceptions to this policy!!.
SAND: Please try to remove as much sand as possible by using the outside hose and shake out your beach towels to remove as much sand as possible. We have been having an issue with the shower drain filling up with sand causing the drainage to slow or stop. If you run into this problem, please let me know.
CHECKING OUT: Please pull the sheets and towels and toss those in the utility room. Clean your dishes and leave them to dry in the rack. The large trash bin is in the garage, please put your trash inside of it. Trash pick up is on Monday so I will be coming by on Sunday to put the bin at the curb. Please let me know if something isn't working so I can have it taken care of for our next guest and safe travels home.
