Welcome to Grandma Traveler's Suite. This suite is one of 2 that we have above our art gallery and home. This suite has a private bedroom with 1 king bed, a spacious closet , and a table to dine or work at and a chaise lounge to relax on. It has a separate large room with a full kitchen, love seat and recliner and a large television on which you can watch DVD movies, several are available. The kitchen has full size appliances, dishes, cookware, just about everything you would need to make a meal if you wanted. The suite also features a full bath with a spacious shower and complimentary laundry facility. There are huge windows which let in lots of great light. We do have curtains, but not darkening shades, so you will wake to the cheery sunshine! The room sleeps 2 in the king bed.
Grandma Traveler's Room is named after Laura's mom. Our daughters referred to her as Grandma Traveler because my mom & dad traveled by RV full time. We have special belongings from my mom in her suite.
We fell in love with our building because of the beautiful woodwork upstairs, which is where your suite is. We maintained the original feel and updated with modern conveniences! The upstairs originally had been a doctor's office. Each room had a different function: apothecary, exam room, x-ray room and developing, waiting room and private kitchen and bathroom for the doctor. Everyone loved the local doctor and it is fun to have locals come and see the space now and share their memories!
Downtown, historic, New Haven is nestled between the Missouri River and the railroad tracks, right between barges and trains ~ delightful! Our quaint historic area features our art gallery, Zia Gallery; New Day Mercantile & Coffee Shop: a potter shop with a variety of beautiful artwork and delicious hot & cold beverages and homemade treats; Lancito's Pizzeria: a yummy little pizzeria with fresh pizza, calzones, salads and sandwiches; Astral Glass, a glass blowing shop with amazing glass work and demonstrations, and Elizabeth's, a gift shop with unique gift items. Just around the corner we have Pinckney Bend Distillery with their award winning spirits, a must stop for tastings! Also downtown we have the levee walk, a beautiful paved trail along the Missouri River. It has benches along the walk and is the perfect place to view the sunrise or sunset. It is really fantastic for late night full moon rises over the river! There is also the Riverfront Cultural Society (RCS) right around the corner which hosts great bands on various weekends. You can search all of these places on the internet to find more information or a concert schedule for the RCS. Right next door to Zia is the Walt Theater, showing movies every weekend for only $5/person. We also have the Colter Memorial and Visitor's Center right around the block. Within a 5 minute drive we have Robller Winery and Town Hall Restaurant, both have delicious libations and beautiful scenery. In New Haven City Park, right off of Hwy 100, there is a swimming pool, open during the summer season, and free tennis courts. So much to do in our quaint town!
We are a 18 minute drive from Washington, MO and Hermann, MO, smack dab in the middle of the 2. There are Amtrak stations in both towns, so if you will be taking the train in, let us know and we will arrange to pick you up. The Katy Trail, a bike rider's dream, is about a 30 minute drive from our place and again, we can arrange a pick up for you! Our B & B is a perfect place for riders because you can wash clothes, as well as get yourself refreshed, before hitting the trail again!
We are blessed to be able to meet new people from around the world as they wander into our town and visit the gallery, stay at the b & b and become friends. We are excited for you to make our place your place to pause or completely unwind and relax! We look forward to hearing from you!
