I came to Urbana for one month to attend a USMLE prep course at the Pass Program, and I am very glad that I decided to stay at James’ place. James was an exceptional host and his place was ideal for my situation. James’ place is conveniently located within walking distance to a large grocery store and a gas station as well as a bus stop that is less than a block away. It is a quiet neighborhood with ample, free street parking and in a nice neighborhood. The Champaign-Urbana area is a college town and the population and nightlife reflect that with plenty of bars and restaurants. His place is close enough to take advantage of those places but nevertheless located in a quiet, safe neighborhood. The room that I stayed in had its own private bathroom. The furnishings were new, modern and comfortable. The bedroom door has a separate lock and key so it was very secure. The room came furnished with a queen bed, tv, cable/wi-fi service and a desk. The room was big, and I had plenty of space. The bed was very comfortable and came with clean sheets, blanket, and pillows. The large L-shaped desk gave me plenty of space to study and work on my computer. The free wifi is fast, and I was able to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOGo, etc. with no problem. The kitchen offered plenty of space and had everything I needed, including like new appliances. Full oven, stove top, frying pan, toaster, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, etc. There is ample dinnerware, cookware, and utensils which was great since I like to cook at home and don’t go out to eat much. There was also like new laundry machines which I could use any time free of charge which was a big plus. If you happen to be coming to Champaign-Urbana for the Pass Program and considering the housing offered by the Pass Program, I would encourage you to consider staying at James’ place instead for the following reasons: 1. James’ place is an easy 10 minute commute from the Pass Program Center, which is about 5 minutes closer than the off-site housing that the Pass Program offers at the Village. 2. At James’ place, I had total flexibility to come and go as I pleased, whereas the Pass Program housing imposes a 10 pm curfew and prohibits any overnight guests of the opposite gender (each suite consists of either all female or all male students). 3. I had complete privacy at James’ place, whereas the Pass Program housing conducts random room checks. James was a very attentive host, checking in periodically to make sure that everything was going okay and that the room had everything that I needed. He was very professional, polite, and helpful. I would recommend James and his place to all other Airbnb travelers, especially those who are coming to Champaign-Urbana for the PASS Program.
James went above and beyond what was required of him to make me feel welcome and comfortable. He picked me up from the bus station in Champaign on the day I arrived even though it was the end of a long workday for him. Although I did not meet him very often because both he and I had schedules that did not coincide and I traveled a lot during my stay, he was always accessible by telephone and text message. He frequently inquired whether there was anything he could do to help me and make my stay better. Everything about the house in general and my room was exactly as described. In fact, it was better than I expected from a house occupied by multiple guests. I was never inconvenienced in any way and the layout of the house is such that it provides a great combination of privacy along with adequate and easily accessible common areas.
