Since this is only our second full rental season and we don't have as much feedback for you to rely on as some other properties yet, we have priced Villa del Sol very competitively. We think you will find it to be a great value.
The 1BR/East apartment is tastefully furnished with everything you need for your stay, including bedding, towels, beach towels, beach chairs, beach umbrella, a cooler, and snorkeling gear. All the furniture and furnishings are high quality and brand new last year (this is only our 2nd rental season). The apartment also has WIFI, cable, and a cell phone signal booster. A washer and dryer are provided for your use.
The spacious bedroom has a king bed, A/C, and ample storage. The tiled bath has a walk-in shower.
The apartment has an open floor plan that maximizes light and the spectacular views. The full kitchen, with gas cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, and Calphalon cookware, opens onto the dining and living areas. The dining area has a wicker table for four. The living area has a comfortable seating group and a flatscreen TV with cable. Immediately outside is a covered deck overlooking the pool with another table and chairs.
The apartment opens onto a spacious coral-stone patio surrounding an in-ground salt water pool with outdoor shower, bordered by palm and fruit trees, and overlooking the ocean. Lounge chairs and a charcoal grill are supplied. Beach chairs, beach umbrellas, coolers, and snorkeling gear are also provided for your use.
For families or larger parties, this apartment can be combined with the adjoining 1BR apartment, which has a connecting door.

HOW TO GET TO VIEQUES (VQS)
The majority of visitors to our villa take a morning flight into the San Juan International Airport (SJU) from their home city and then a 25-minute small airplane flight on Cape Air or Seaborne Airlines from SJU to VQS. Another option is to take a 20-minute cab ride from SJU to the other airport in San Juan, San Juan Isla Grande (SIG), and fly to VQS on Vieques Air Link or Air Flamenco. The flights from SIG cost less than from SJU.
We generally caution guests re taking the hour cab ride from San Juan to Fajardo on the east coast to take the ferry to Vieques. The ferry is inexpensive but it is unreliable and frequently full. A better alternative to flying from San Juan is to take a 1-hour/$100 cab ride from SJ to the small airport in Ceiba, also on the east coast. Both Air Flamenco and Vieques Air Link make the 10-minute flight to Vieques from Ceiba for $34-36 each way.
All of the local airlines have additional charges for baggage above some scheduled weight (consult their websites). Contact info for the several local airlines is:
* Cape Air (from SJU only)
* Seaborne Airlines (from SJU only)
* Vieques Air Link (from SIG and Ceiba)
* Air Flamenco (from SIG and Ceiba)
You will need to do a web search for the websites and phone numbers of these airlines, as Airbnb does not allow us to post this information.
RENTING A CAR
You will need to rent a car or jeep to get around on Vieques. Cars rented on the main island of PR cannot be brought over on the ferry. Here are the car rental agencies we recommend. You should reserve your car well in advance, as cars can rent up fully on Vieques, even during low season.
* Vieques Car Rental (manager Betty Gilreath also our manages our villa)
* Maritza's Car Rental
* Island Car Rental
* Avis Car Rental
* Chepito's Car Rental
You will need to do a web search for the websites and phone numbers of these agencies, as Airbnb does not allow us to post this information.
Cell phone from the continental US work in PR and on Vieques without roaming charges. AT&T seems to have the strongest cell signal here, but Verizon and Spring cellphones also work OK too. T-Mobile has the weakest coverage on the island, and only works intermittently at our Villa. None of the carriers provide good signal in the furthest corners of the island.
Villa del Sol is nestled in the countryside along the ocean 2 miles east of the main town of Isabel Segunda. It sits on 1-1/3 fenced and gated acres newly landscaped with palm, nut, and fruit trees. There is plenty of parking. Each unit has a wireless security system with entry keypad. The pool area has ample seating and chaise lounges, as well as charcoal grills.
Vieques is a small, quaint, out of the way tropical island with the pluses and minuses that go with that. We think it is just wonderful. But it's probably not for everyone. There are no golf courses on the island, no casinos, shopping centers, or even large stores. Shopping on the island is limited to the "Supermercado", small corner markets (called "colmados"), three small hardware stores, and various galleries and gift shops.
BUT YOU WILL FIND numerous, uncrowded, world class beaches, friendly local residents, and numerous, high-quality restaurants to be a true delight.
You must be 25 or over to rent our apartments (the same applies to rental cars on the island). There is no smoking inside, and we expect music and TVs to be played at low volume between 10 pm to 9 am. You can look forward to a quiet, restful stay at our villa perched high above the ocean. You share the pool area, which is very spacious, with the adjacent apartment and the owners unit upstairs. You are welcome to use the available beach gear (coolers, beach chairs, snorkeling equipment) and the on-site washer/dryer.
Our local property managers Betty and Miles Gilreath will plan to meet you when you arrive on the island to lead you to our villa. They are very helpful and are readily available to answer questions or give you tips about island points of interest. Betty also manages Vieques Car Rental and can help you reserve a car or SUV (a vehicle is a necessity during your stay).
My wife Olga and I live in Ann Arbor, MI. Olga is from Madrid and teaches at the Univ of Michigan and I am a partly retired commercial Realtor. We started visiting friends in Vieques a few years ago and fell in love with the island. Last summer we had the chance to buy this wonderful, modern 3-unit villa with a panoramic view of the ocean. Please contact us with any questions. We will respond quickly.
