I still work in the UK but being a teacher, I am able to enjoy long summers in France so if you visit in July or August, I will be delighted to welcome you. If not, my wonderful friend Cornelius Blum, resident artist and bon viveur will look after you. Either way, we will leave you to enjoy your stay but we will be more than happy to give you any recommendations or help you in any way to make your stay enjoyable. If you need maps, recommendations for restaurants etc... don't hesitate to ask.

Maison de la Fontaine is located at the heart of the village but it is still very peaceful. We have made many friends over the years and love to be there to enjoy the easy way of life and the guaranteed sunshine. The village, although small, is vibrant in the summer with many social events such as the annual paella, evening walks, art exhibitions. The Cave Cooperative has an excellent reputation and wine tasting can be enjoyed every day. There is a Tapas bar in the evenings. Make sure you reserve a place as it gets fully booked throughout the summer! If you fancy a walk, you only need to step out of the house and you are in beautiful countryside with wonderful smells of wild rosemary, thyme and lavender. The beaches are a half hour drive away along very peaceful roads, no chance of getting stuck in a traffic jam! I love sitting with a glass of wine late at night admiring the amazing shooting stars.

Wonderful location in a small and authentic French wine village.

So special to stay in this beautiful and ancient village! The house was comfortable for my two friends & I, so nice to find a single story home where we could each have our own bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the courtyard and pool were perfect for the hot weather. The location was a great base for exploring the region, which we really enjoyed. One day we went for a drive to the coast and then popped down to Spain for dinner, something we could never do at home in Australia!
Tracey, thank you so much for your kind comments. Glad you had a good stay. Yes, we are very fortunate to be so near Spain. This area has it all, sea, stunning scenery, vineyards, we just love it. Kind regards Dominique

I would highly recommend this place. I recently stayed there for a month with my wife and young daughter and we had an amazing time. The village is beautiful. It's surrounded by hills/mountains and vineyards, some great walking and cycling routes, as well as some local swimming spots. It's very peaceful but also close enough to nearby attractions such as the beach (Leucate, which is only 30 mins away is particularly nice!), cities such as Carcassonne and Narbonne and also various Cathar ruins. The house is lovely and well kitted out for a family or group of friends – we had various people coming out to stay with us and spent many a day hanging by the pool or using the BBQ and pizza oven in the walled courtyard. Domi and her husband were extremely helpful and responded quickly every time we had a question, etc. The region is not one we had been to before, but now one of our favourite areas in France. And the local wine is also great! Well worth a visit.
Ed, thank you so much for your very kind words. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Peter was very happy to meet you and your family. We love Embres and it is so nice to hear you liked it too. Kind regards Dominique

Bonjour et bienvenue à Maison de la Fontaine, my name is Dominique and together with my husband Peter I own this lovely home in the Languedoc. We first fell in love with the area when we met there over 35 years ago. Back then, we were young, picking grapes in the Corbières hills…
