Our peaceful eco-retreat abounds with Neolithic heritage and stunning views just 3 miles to Newport and the coast. Relax in a king size bed or put on your walking boots and head out into the stunning landscape after an optional organic breakfast.
We have just built this super insulated timber eco-extension onto our old stone cottage. The room faces west with triple glazed double doors letting in the wonderful afternoon and evening light - overlooking the garden, sunsets, Carningli mountain and the sea.
The room is decorated in a tranquil natural colour scheme and has everything for a peaceful retreat from the world. There is some wifi access if you wish (not strong enough to stream TV or film, but you can check messages and surf the net) and there are DVDs to play on your PC, otherwise feel free to cut yourself off from modern technology and read a book or contemplate the gorgeous view.
The all season duvet and pillows are anti-allergy goose and featherdown on a kingsize bed. If you want to laze around and read on the bed there are plenty of cushions and antique welsh blankets to pile up and get cosy with.
You can bring your own breakfast and use the facilities provided or we are very happy to provide a breakfast at a modest charge of £5 per person. Provision for breakfast includes a toaster and kettle along with local bread, butter and conserves, muesli or cereal. It is Self Service which gives you independence. All foods are organic and locally sourced where possible. Food is kept chilled in earthenware pottery to keep them cool - we try to keep technology to a minimum. The dresser is full of books, games, DVDs and leaflets of interest. A selection of teas, ground coffee, milk and sugar are provided free of charge.
You have access to your own garden with patio seating, bedroom and bathroom.
The ensuite garden room has an independent lockable external entrance. You can come and go when you wish.
We are often around at home working in our office, studio or one acre gardens. We are very happy to chat and help you with recommendations of lovely walks, places to eat and great things to do locally. We can also look things up for you and make calls if needed [there is no mobile reception at the house].
There is rather weak wifi system [ we manage with it] and no mobile reception here. A mobile signal is possible with 5 mins walk or 1 minute drive up the hill.
If you are on public transport, we are 3.5 miles from town, or about 1 hour walk on very pretty and peaceful country lanes; or 2 miles from the nearest bus stop. This it easy if you enjoy hiking, but not so suitable if you are not used to it.
Breakfast of fresh local bread and muesli/cereal is an optional extra at £5 a head. All items are organic or local when possible.
We have an ecological building with heating and hot water from renewable sources. This means that the hot tank will have capacity for a bath and a shower but after those, be aware that tank will need time to reheat.
There are some large uneven stepping stones* in the BnB garden area as we are planning to create a Japanese garden there. They are best avoided if you are not sure footed.
*We are almost certain these great slabs are the remains of a dismantled Neolithic stone alignment of 40 standing stones which went East/West down the field towards Carningli, and was destroyed since last surveyed by a Royal Commission in 1913.
Please keep loud noise to a minimum after 11pm and before 7am and we also will do the same.
We live on our acre of trees and vegetables with our bilingual children and guinea pigs. We are half way up a hill to the Preseli Mountains on the west coast of Wales.
We try and live a low impact, eco, organic, outdoor lifestyle in our beautiful coastal environment. We are interested in history, poetry, music, politics, languages and other countries. We are considerate and easy company and enjoy travelling in Wales, the UK and abroad. We go camping, WWOOFing (volunteering on organic farms) or self catering usually.
We can’t live without good coffee, bikes, beaches, Moomins books and David Attenborough wildlife documentaries.
