Usually both housekeepers, Mery and Alfons, are at home, and almost always one of us is there. We are happy to help you with any tourist or other information you need about Cusco or Perú and we can offer contacts with friends and colleagues in several other Latinamerican countries.
We have good connections with some tourist agencies and also individually operating guides, for example for trips to Choquequirao and other Inka trails. If you are interested in development aid activities, as poverty especially in remote rural areas is still present, we can help you with contacting several Development Centres.
Within Cusco, the city quarter of San Borja has a good micro climate where windy weather is rare. Cusco can be quite fresh from April to September and cold during the night and early morning. However, your room has a comfortable temperature and if it would be necessary, as might happen on some days in June or July, we can put a gas stove in your room to raise the temperature. In fact, during day time and thanks to the sky windows in the roof, good warmth is stored in the room and its walls.
Some people need not one but a couple of days to adapt fully to the altitude (3400 meters above sea level). For that reason, we always have coca tea, anti-sorocho pills and light food available for you on your request.
Keep the kitchen clean after every use, as the other common spaces and the bathrooms. Avoid smoking within the rooms of the house and making noise between 10pm and 8am.
These are the only House Rules, easy to apply and secures the well being of everybody.
We are Mery Motta and Alfons Broeks, an enthusiastic couple who is happy to be part of the well-organized hospitality initiative of Airbnb.
Alfons started some 30 years ago his first job as an agricultural engineer in the Andes of southern Peru. Since then he enjoys living in Peru and travelling around Latin America. Mery has been a kindergarten teacher for many years and since the past 10 years has mainly been taking care of the family and of housekeeping. We have two daughters who currently live abroad.
The both of us like as much to study and to enjoy the Peruvian culinary art, its nowadays dynamic society as the deep wisdom of its ancient and current cultures towards Mother Earth and Good Living (Allin Kausay).
As a couple and as family we have been living in several parts of Peru, Spain and Holland. We lived from 2005 up to 2014 in Lima and moved in 2011 into our own new department, there. Our daughter Elvira introduced us to Airbnb and through her account we put a free room in rental. It was a great joy for us to have international guests, make them feel at home and engage in conversations.
One of them stayed for three months, another for two and other guests made shorter stays. They all enjoyed plenty of space in the shared kitchen and living room. To keep the kitchen clean after any activity and no smoking inside the house are the only house-rules we apply. It is easy to keep up with and guarantees the best experience for everyone.
We moved in april 2014 to Cusco and have been re-modelling our home there. Since March 2016 we have three comfortable rooms for one or two persons available, together with a common room with a kitchenette. These four spaces plus the bathroom are all adjacent and can be used together as an independent appartment by a group of up to five persons. Additionally, we have prepared a new room in a small chalet at the interior courtyard with garden, of our house.
We are very happy to relaunch our host service for Airbnb guests with our comfortable house close to the historic centre of Cusco and good facilities for cooking and global communication. We have lots of contacts to help you with your tourist tours, study or work activities.
