My husband and I with three friends enjoyed this beautiful and authentic home for 8 weeks over summer. Stefania and Angelo made us feel so welcome with home made tiramisu and local wine on arrival. Falcinello is a quiet hilltop town about 5-7 minutes drive from Sarzana. The views from the house are amazing and the ocean breeze reaches the house perfectly which was a saviour for us during the hot summer. The kitchen is equipped with everything you will need including a wood fired pizza oven which unfortunately we didn't get to use as the weather was far too hot. The terrace has a barbecue and was perfect for a meal outside. We had 2 cars between us and street parking was easy and always available with the exception of two or three nights where there was local food festivals on in the main courtyard of the town. We completely loved the area, it has so much to offer with the mountains (where carrara marble is sourced) towering over the coastal towns, the ocean only 15 minutes away and the river spiralling down from the hills with beautiful fresh water swimming holes we had the perfect summer playground. Falcinello has a bar which seemed very popular when it was open, we planned to go but of course we were busy each time it was open. Ipercoop is the closest large supermarket but there is endless options for grocery shopping, including Conad, Lidle, Carrefour and local markets all within twenty minutes drive. Our favourite pastries we're at Francesco in Sarzana and Tonlorenzi cake shop in Massa. The gelato at Rosellini gelateria in Marina di Carrara kept us coming back, but a closer option for a good gelato is Biagi in Sarzana. The resturant at the beginning of the road to Falcinello (on the right corner when you turn into Via Falcinello) provided a great meal. Other favourite restaurants included Galleto (especially for lunch), and Arribaba, both just outside the Sarzana historical centre not far from Porta Romana. While on the subject of food the local specialty Farinata is something to try and most pizza restaurants will make it, the best we tried was made by a friend but we also enjoyed it from La Pia, Bugliani and Marchetto. A food and wine tour with locals is worth it, we spent a day touring the area and tasting foods and wines, also seeing how lardo is made in Collonata (a gorgeous town in the mountains where the piazza is made entirely of marble) and tasting food and wines from the Bosoni Lvnae winery. Stefania and Angelo's home was the perfect location for our adventure in Italy, we felt so safe away from the bigger towns and we couldn't have asked for better hosts. Thank you so much Stefania and Angelo we are so greatful for your hospitality and kindness during our stay.
