Casa de Culturas is a unique desert retreat located 10 minutes from Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. The property sleeps up to 16 and features an open kitchen & dining area, a yoga, dance & play studio and a large private yard with camping space, a fire circle & covered patio. Casa de Culturas is a mid-70's ranch style 2br/2ba home that reflects the time period down to vintage kitchenware, Danish Modern furnishings and an extensive vinyl collection.
Our comfortable well furnished bedrooms feature king and queen beds and queen air mattresses providing space for up to 8 guests. The living area sleeps up to 4 and there is space outside for two tents including power and water. The covered patio and private back yard features an amazing view of Joshua Tree and has 4 dining tables with seating for 20. Outdoor seating includes benches and oversized wicker chairs around a large fire pit. Please provide your own wood, a limited amount of kindling is available on site.
We are located just south of Highway 62 in Joshua Tree Village, a short walk or bike ride to shops and restaurants.
The house is a 5 minute walk to rock formations and trails leading into Desert View Preserve, an open space area of several thousand acres outside Joshua Tree Park, with miles of hiking and mountain biking for all levels.

As you pull up to Casa de Culturas, no matter what time of year, you notice something different, something unexpected, tall annual and evergreen trees surrounding the house providing privacy, passive cooling and a distinct look that sets our home apart. The front yard is open, but a short adobe wall off the front door offers privacy and a great sitting area.
The back yard is very private, overlooking JT Village and the vast Mojave Desert. 4 outdoor dining tables and plenty of extra seating make this a great place to relax after your adventures.
Kick back by the fire or on the covered patio under a canopy of desert stars.
In our home, cooking, like love is an expression of the soul. The East-facing kitchen includes antique cast iron pans, coffee bar, spices, utensils and all the things to make your desert cooking experience fun, healthy and memorable. There is no automatic dishwasher available.
The dining/living space opens on to the patio and overlooks the hand-built fire circle.
Fresh eggs, fruit, veggies and more are available at Sam’s Market and the natural foods store nearby.
From Crossroads to Sam’s Liquor, Pizza, and Indian Food, the Village has something for every taste and budget.
Major markets, chain stores and other suppliers are located 10 miles west in Yucca Valley.

A great place to relax and rest after a day playing among the rocks, this south-facing room stays cool even on the hottest days. This comfortable space includes

A great place to nurture your literary ambitions or read a good story to the kids, this room has a queen size bed, available queen air mattress, a beautiful leather-topped antique writing desk and other furnishings chosen by my daughter Flower.

After the recent passing of our beloved Rubi, pets are no longer permitted at Casa de Culturas due to the additional cleanup required.

We are generally available by phone or text to handle any issues that may arise.

RULES TO LIVE BY AND LEGALESE
1. Cigarette smoking is not allowed on the property, all other smoking must take place outside.
2. Pets are not allowed at Casa de Culturas
3. Quiet Hours are 10pm to 7am, please respect our neighbors.
4. No firearms unless secured in your vehicle at all times during your stay.
5. Fires are to be kept within established fire pit. Keep it happy, keep it small. $100 will be charged to your deposit if a bonfire or other large fire occurs on the property.
6. Practice a leave no trace policy. Bag all trash, put in cans, leave house as nice as you found it.
The residents and owners of Casa de Culturas are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, illness, or other unforeseen circumstance that may occur while on the premises or its facilities, nor are we responsible for losses and/or damages to personal belongings or valuables. All Guests expressly assume the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises and adjacent land including but not limited to injury or loss of life due to acts of god, wildlife, weather, or use of facilities & items on the property. The residents and owners of the Casa de Culturas property are not responsible for any legal infractions, penalties, fees, or incarcerations including but not limited to noise, neighbor complaints, outdoor fires, firearms, fireworks, or illegal drug use. We strongly discourage any illegal activity and reserve the right to evict guests from the premises with no compensation if any such activity is observed or reported.
We love the desert and have spent years exploring, writing and filming in the Southwest. When not hanging out with my beautiful kids, I spend time volunteering, working with elders, kids and Native American groups. Cooking, music, and the outdoors are about my favorite things. I also offer guided spiritual retreats and environmental education outdoors experiences through Casa de Culturas our in-house cultural center. Hope to see you soon!
