bay facing the house (before the bridge)100 year old renovated house
On a bay outside Istanbul (Anadolu Feneri village)

Best for individuals, families, or groups residing in Istanbul wishing to spend some time away from city life in Istanbul. Kavacik is 20-25 mins away and Etiler 35 mins. Seasonal canoeing, swimming and harvesting. Lots of space with two living rooms, lunching in the garden and dining on the roof top terrace.

This vacation home is a 100 year old village house on the last bay before the Bosphorus turns into the Black Sea. It is located in a village with sea-food restaurants and a mosque.

The house has 5 bedrooms, an additional sleeping area in the rooftop, two living rooms and 2 1/2 baths. Two of the bedrooms, the rooftop area and the living rooms and kitchen have a view on the water. Furnishings are modern and there is a traditional sedir area. The house was renovated in 2003.

There is a 1000 m2 garden adjacent to the house (with a right of way road running in between the house and garden). The garden is landscaped and also has a vegetable garden where you can pluck your own tomatoes in summer (unless there is drought). Guests can also walk to the beach in 10mins or explore the further away beaches.

Because of steep stairs in places and a high terrace, the house is not suitable for children under 6.

We recommend having lunch in the garden and dinner on the rooftop terrace.

Layout: lower floor: living room, bedroom (with view and 1.6m wide bed), half bath
middle floor: bedroom with bunkbeds, bathroom, bedroom (with view and 1.6m wide bed)
upper floor: kitchen, dining room, living room with sedir area, bedroom (with king bed), bedroom with two single beds. Roof-top: 2 single beds. All-together the house comfortably sleeps 10 people, and including rooftop beds and sedir area in the living rooms, 16 people.

Guests can access the entire home. We use it often as our vacation home, but ample closet space is available for guests. There is one canoe for 2 people available, on the beach, with life vests in the green chest in the living room and paddles in the depot.

Burhan manages the property together with me. He speaks Turkish and some English. He will meet you in person at the house or at a convenient location, such as Kavacik by the second bridge or the boat landing in Anadolu Kavak. There is a private spot on the beach, which during the week won't face competition but during the weekend may not be accessible.

Parking available for three cars
Mosque + loud call to prayer nearby (50m)
Pedestrian way to the beach separates house from garden. Garden is fully private.

We stayed at Caroline's beautiful home in Anadolu Feneri for a few days before we entered 2017. The house is located at a beautiful location by the sea where you can see the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge across the water. Interior of the house is beautiful and very clean. We found everything easily including the location of the house. Caroline arranged everything to our convenience. Her driver Burak welcomed us at Anadolu Kavagi to guide us to the house and she provided detail explanation of the house and the surrounding. The communication through out the booking and stay were perfect. Anadolu Feneri is a beautiful small town. It is very peaceful yet very close to the city center of Istanbul. Surrounded by the forest, one side is the Bosphorus and the other side Black Sea, you find yourself in a peaceful relaxing environment. We enjoyed our stay very much and would like to stay there again in the future.

This was a very memorable two night stay at the beautifully and caringly restored century old Ottoman mansion overlooking the last Asian-side bay on the Bosphorus. There is plenty of room for three couples and 6-8 kids to stay comfortably, although we were only two, and that was an excellent experience as well. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was my best Airbnb stay ever. The host and her assistant Burhan make you feel welcome and it is clear that theirs is a labor of love. The house is incredibly homey and all the unique touches make it a delight to stay in. We stayed in more than we planned to for that reason. The small balcony on the south side has probably the best view anywhere of the newly built 3rd Bosphorus bridge. Taking in the breathtaking view from there was our favorite morning activity. Right next door is Captain Mustafa's place which took our breakfast order for two (the selection was so big, we could finish it only in two days) and delivers to your doorstep in 20 minutes for $16 total. We also ordered the fish catch of the day in the evening, and grilled palamut arrived again in the house for a very reasonable price. I am afraid I will fall short in describing the five star experience we have had here, you just have to experience it yourself. The photos and description are not enough to understand it. I was warned about the morning prayer from the nearby mosque, but did not even hear it the first morning. Frankly, the morning prayer could be less loud and given with only human voice rather than the loudspeakers in this tiny hamlet, however, it did not spoil our experience at all. To the contrary, it aligned very well with the spirit of the house we were in. The private hanging gardens were an amazing surprise. They stretch from the house halfway to the bottom of the cliff the house is nestled on. They include a small but usable swimming pool, a set of swings, places to enjoy a meal or the sunset, and fruit/vegetable gardens! This was a very romantic escape from the hustle of Istanbul, yet we are planning to be back with the rest of our families. It is a very attractive place for kids as well as adults. The key is to respect the century old house and not let kids run roughshod over it. The place is best suited for those that appreciate the historic nature of the place and the lovingly done restoration by the owner that makes it a fitting entry in the Architectural Digest. The owner was accessible within minutes when contacted, and so was the assistant. Yet, the place has very good level of privacy and is a heaven for a romantic or restful couple of days. We also managed to swim in the Bosphorus from here, and although we didn't make use of it, heard...

Great house with a beautiful view, especially from the terrace. The house had everything we needed and it was well designed and decorated. Caroline gave us all the information we needed and responded to any questions we had quickly.

Caroline is a great host: She was always available to respond to questions, very helpful and very kind.

This place is magical! I came here with my husband and 9 months old baby. At the beginning we were afraid the mosque might be a problem for the baby's sleep, but she didn't even seem to notice the muezzin:) to us it just made the whole experience even more special. We loved the beautiful old house that feels like home the minute you come in and especially enjoyed the view on the roof terrace mornings and nights. We had great experiences at all the restaurants, fish at the captains place next door, breakfast at the cafe on the other side next door, coffee at the little cafe across the street and there is even a grill:) also there are many great things to explore around town. the only thing you should bring is cash as the next ATM is in Beykoz. we definitely recommend this beautiful getaway!

We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful bayside home. Caroline was very quick to respond to all of my inquiries, both before and during our stay, and was extremely accommodating of our needs. She wasn’t in town during our stay, but her local representative, Burhan, was there to greet us and show us the house and introduce us to the neighbors. He stuck around for our late arrival and returned the next day to show us the outside areas. Our hosts also were a big help with retrieving some lost luggage. We had a party of eight adults, and everyone was comfortable. There were plenty of well-appointed common spaces, both indoor and out, to enjoy. It was hot and muggy during our summer stay, but keeping the AC on during the day and the windows open at night kept us cool enough. And the view was spectacular! Every evening we enjoyed watching the sunset over the water from the roof. A bridge is being built in the distance, lit beautifully at night. The neighbors and local business owners were extremely friendly (not sure how many spoke English). Two bodegas supplied affordable groceries and we bought fish locally, though you will need to travel to other towns for alcohol and meat. There were many fish restaurants and a nice café. We also enjoyed the fresh vegetables from the garden. Though we rented a car, driving in the nearby towns was rather difficult for us Americans. Most of our trips were by public transit, which took a long time, but was pretty reliable. Pick up an Istanbulcart before you get to Anadolu Feneri, since you can’t buy one there. The walk to the water was rather difficult, so wear proper shoes. You can also drive to the beach, but the narrow was difficult to maneuver, so it only makes sense if you have older adults, like we did. Swim shoes were helpful for swimming in the rocky, weedy beach—bring your goggles to spot sea creatures. Despite some worry about tipping over, we really enjoyed paddling one of their kayaks around the bay. And when we were too lazy to go to the beach, the garden pool offered a convenient way to cool off. We got everything we expected from this stay and more!

The house has amazing views. It's an old lovely house with warm and tasteful touches in decoration. The library is wonderful and so is the film selections. We were very comfortable. It turned out that we had to make several trips to the center of Istanbul and to the airport. That was a bit of a burden on us, but throughout the planning and the stay both Caroline and Murat were available via text. Burhan was wonderful. He picked us up from the hotel and gave us a tour of the house and the multi-tiered garden. There were tomatoes and peppers. My brother in law very much enjoyed harvesting these as well as eggplants. We didn't get to use the canoe but it was nice to know that the option is there. All in all it was a wonderful stay. We enjoyed looking at the old pictures of the Fener and of the house as well as reading the poems and other art material on the walls. It's a wonderful place to spend a sabbatical.
