The listing didn't reflect what we encountered at the property. Was mentioned that it was a waterfront property but the water was so far away from the house. However there was water leaking from the toilet in the master bath into the kitchen. Planned Power outage happened on bot…
I am really sorry with this guest's experience in regards to the water leak. It was an unforeseen mechanical issue that was remedied as soon as possible during their stay. I understand that it affected their stay negatively and gave them the full refund that they asked for. I'm also sorry about their experience with the solar power system, however their statement about "planned power outages" is incorrect. If guests don't manage their use of electricity in accordance with the guidelines we communicate in the listing, house rules, and guidebook, then the system will automatically shutdown when the batteries reach a critical charge level that can cause permanent damage. We must then wait until the sun comes back out and charges the batteries to a certain level before turning the system back on. There is no other way to handle this situation, and all of this information is fully disclosed in the house rules and home guide. In order to be completely sure that the solar system is fully functioning and that future guests will be able to have the best experience possible at the home, I have scheduled a full solar diagnostic test for tomorrow. While we are really sorry that this guest did not have a good experience at the home, it was very evident to my property manager and I that they were not very well suited to the off-the-grid jungle experience and had failed to go through the listing or in depth planning materials I sent them in advance of their stay. It is very important for all potential guests to be self selective before booking and take the time to thoroughly go through the listing, house rules, and guest reviews in order to know what they are getting into. This home is not for everyone, but for those who value access to active adventure, natural beauty, and complete privacy, and are realistic in their ability to deal with certain environmental and comfort challenges, it is a one of a kind experience! the property and home are absolutely beautiful. local hardwood everywhere, a perfect house for a group of 4 or a family. My wife and I journeyed to Sierpe after Manuel Antonio not knowing exactly what to expect besides reading that Corcovado National Park was deemed the "most bio…
Hey Dan - Glad to hear that you and your wife had an enjoyable stay at my Sierpe River home! Sorry to hear about the bugs. They vary quite a bit in intensity based on precipitation and the tidal/lunar cycle. Being there during a wet season supermoon is probably as bad as it gets. For most of the dry season we are able to sit on the porch at night without any bug dope at all! As you said we take every precaution possible with the imported screens we use at the house and sealing up all windows and doors. Furthermore, guests are strongly encouraged to follow the packing instructions we send them and bring things like bug spray and lightweight long sleeved clothing and pants. Furthermore, following the welcome book guidelines and closing up all doors and windows when the sun starts to set will help out as well. This house is definitely off the grid and requires that guests be adventurous in spirit. Every now and then there are things that some might view as an inconvenience, but the reward for those with the right frame of mind is pure nature, beauty, and adventure at your doorstep 24/7!
