Menu: Pumpkin Soup, Banana’s Flower Salad with Chicken and Grilled Local Pork with Mountain Herbs & Bamboo rice At 10:00am we will meet at Eco Palms House - Sapa Retreat in Lao Chai Province. Once you are here we will take a taxi 20 mins to Sapa Market where we will walk around collecting the local ingredients. I will also teach out about foods that are specific to Northern Vietnam. We will spend about 1.5 hours at Sapa Market. 12:10pm we will take the 20 minute taxi back to Eco Palms House. When we arrive we will drop off our ingredients we purchased and I will take you to our onsite garden. Here you will get to hand pick (if you would like) the remaining ingredients for your dish. Around 1:00pm once we have all of the ingredients, I will start teaching you how to prep the food for your dishes. Here you will get to learn about the fresh herbs, vegetables and meat (if you eat meat). I will get to show you techniques I have learned from my Mother and Vietnamese Chef school as we prepare and cook the ingredients for your chosen dishes (Soup, Salad and Main Dish). We will finish cooking around 2:30pm. Once you have finished cooking your dish, you then will get the option to either sit inside our dinning hall or outside. Both offer incredible mountain and rice terrace views! 4.5 Hours Total
Hi my name is Hien! I am 1 of 8 siblings, mother to 2 sons and a wife to my husband Khanh. I grew up in Thai Binh Province and moved to Lao Chai 20 years ago with my husband and sons where we designed and built Eco Palms House - Sapa Retreat. My mother started teaching me how to cook traditional Vietnamese dishes when I was 15 years old. By the age of 20, I enrolled into Cooking School where I spent the next 2 years learning more skills and techniques. After Cooking School I went to work at 3 different hotels as a chef over the next 10 years. I got married and had my 2 sons, when my son was 10 years old I started teaching him how to cook as well. We as a family now run Eco Palms House - Sapa Retreat where I created the menu and my one son and I are chefs. I have been offering cooking classes here over the past 4 years.

The cooking class will take place inside of my family run, Eco Palms House. Here you will be surrounded by views of the Hoang Lien Son Mountain, Muong Hoa River Valley & Sapa's iconic rice terraces. You will also get to visit Sapa Market. There you will get to learn about our local ingredients specific to Northern Vietnam, our 5 ethnic minority groups and get the opportunity to experience a bit of our local mountain life.
